Introduction: I have a wide range of writing, tutoring, and publishing experience. I have published two books, I am executive editor at two different presses, and I have more than a decade of experience teaching in higher education. Through all of these ventures, I've been acclaimed for my approachability, honesty, good humor, and empathy. Also, it doesn't hurt that I'm affordable! I like helping people overcome any issues they may have with writing, both at the basic level of the sentence, or in seeing their hard-fought literary work enter the wider world. It gives me endless satisfaction to see people realize their hopes, and that's why I've dedicated myself so fully to the writing pursuit, both personally and professionally.

Nick Courtright worked with me on several poems. He helped me in a way that so far no other editor / writing coach / fellow writer has been able to do, and I am quite grateful for his intervention. He basically helped me cut through the bull shit, and get straight to the meat of my writing. He saw what I could not because I was so personally involved with my work. Nick came to every single one of our meetings knowing the poems better than I did, and worked with me on every single line, every single word. I tend to write long poems, and one of the poem we worked on was over thirty pages long when we started working on it. It is now a good ten pages shorter, and a much better poem. Great big thank you to Nick Courtright. He is an excellent writing coach, editor, and poet. I hope to work with him again in the future.

Nick Courtright is a name you should know as a tutor, consultant, editor and supporter. I have a "long poem" that needed someone to help me get my arms around it, and Nick did, by understanding and taking the big picture view. Upon completing it I have returned to Nick for guidance as to self-publishing or submitting to publishers. He is knowledgeable, to say nothing of the important attributes of being an excellent poet, articulate, scholarly. I plan to have Nick's help in assembling poems to submit for publication, for editing, selecting and market analysis. He knows more than I do, and I benefit from that. Bill

Nick is a great teacher because he is a careful and enthusiastic reader. He found what worked in my stories and offered useful advice for what was lacking--something that my polite critique group could never do. The best thing I left with, however is less editorial. Nick gave me a technique that helped me trust my own voice by building on smaller elements of language and ideas. I now have a creative cistern that I can dip into and use in various narrative forms. He is whip-smart and insightful and knows how to find the levers that elevate ordinary writing, making it lighter and better. I highly recommend working with him. He is kind, he is funny and he can help.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing varies a lot because of the individual needs of each customer---there's rarely a pinpoint quote to offer until there's enough information to know. I am a big fan of "under-promise, over-deliver," and I historically have been far more affordable than my competition.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A big thing is finding out exactly what the customer's expectations are. Too many editors try to impose their own will on the customer, but I think truly listening to the customer's needs and wants is an essential way to begin any effective business relationship.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
PhD in Literature in progress at the University of Texas, Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Texas State University, Bachelor of Specialized Studies in Written Expression at Ohio University
