Primeau Guitar Studio is one of the premier guitar lesson studios in Austin, held in high esteem by students of all ages. I strive to create a pleasurable learning experience in a comfortable environment. Whether you’re just picking up the guitar for the first time or you’ve been playing for years, I work with my students to create fun, progressive guitar lessons tailored to their individual learning style.
Unlike a large music, multi-teacher music school, at Primeau Guitar Studio, you’re not just another face in the crowd. I aim to create a personal, friendly relationship with each of my students. You won’t hear other guitarists noodling through the walls or have to deal with a secretary to take care of scheduling. Likewise, I am a full-time professional teacher so I won’t be missing lessons frequently for performances and you’ll never be passed off to another teacher.
My home studio is filled with every book, DVD, audio equipment, effects pedal and learning tool you could ever need to for a great learning experience. I most enjoy helping students find or deepen their passion for the guitar. The best part of being a guitar teacher are those "goose-bump" moments when a student performs so well that I can see the joy that learning guitar gives them. I've led students as young as seven to become life-long guitar players, guided teens through successful college auditions and re-ignited lost musical love for students who have been stuck in a rut for 20+ years.

Ive been studying with Chris for about 10 months and Im very happy with the progress Ive made. I decided to pick up the guitar a couple of years ago when I was working in Omaha. I took lessons for about a year and I learned the basics but I also picked up some bad habits. I took a job in Austin and after being here for 6 months I wanted to get started again. I found Chris on Thumbtack and Im glad I did. Chris tailors the lesson to what Im trying to accomplish instead of using a set routine for every student. Im 53 and my musical tastes and goals are different from his younger students. He also understands how I learn and gives me the right amount each week to challenge me but not frustrate me. I work and travel a lot so my practice time is limited some weeks. Even with the lack of time to devote to the guitar, Ive made tremendous progress in the months Ive been studying with Chris. I would recommend him to anyone who is serious about learning the guitar, either a beginner like me or a more advanced person looking to improve.

I'm 42 and learning guitar after a lifetime of trying to pick things up here and there. I've only had 4 lessons with Chris but I'm already seeing results with Chris's coaching. He's uber organized and always prepared with my tabs. The 30 minutes is focused start to finish. I feel like its a class with structure, and a goal. I also appreciate he has a dedicated teaching space in his home so setup is snap.

Chris is a great teacher. My 8 year old daughter and myself started taken lessons as beginners and we both are making great progress. Chris is able to flex his style to trainees of all ages which is very helpful. He encourages his students to set some goals and he helps us with his knowledge and teaching skills to make traction towards those goals. I would highly recommend him to anyone!

Chris is a wonderful guitar teacher. I hadn't picked up my guitar for years and was itching to get back into playing. I found Chris on Thumbtack and that same day was set up with my first lesson later in the week. I love how Chris asked me to come up with a list of my favorite songs I wanted to learn how to play. He's a talented musician himself and it's great to feel like I'm just scratching the surface of his musical knowledge, even though I'm not a beginner. Very patient guy, which is great when I'm fumbling through a more challenging song. Highly recommend Chris for beginners and more advanced players alike. Cool guy.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $55/half-hour and $100/hour due on a monthly basis at the last lesson of each month.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I offer a free hour-long introductory consultation/lesson. It's important to get a good understanding of a student's current level of proficiency and musical aspirations before creating a plan for them. I have a variety of proven curriculum paths drawn up for various topics with a heavy emphasis on finding immediate application for any new topic.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduate summa cum laude with a BM in performance from the Berklee College of Music, though I continue to take lessons to this day.
