Introduction
Hi, I'm a regenerative landscape designer from the Netherlands, now based in Austin! I grew up below sea level, so working with water—capturing it, reusing it, and designing around it—comes naturally to me. My approach to landscaping focuses on regenerative design: creating outdoor spaces that are not only beautiful, but also support local ecosystems, conserve water, and require less maintenance over time. Whether you're looking to transform your yard, design a native garden, or integrate rainwater harvesting into your landscape, I’d love to help bring your vision to life in a sustainable way.

Steven has helped us fantastically from the early design up to and including the planting of the garden. We especially liked the open and personal communication during the design and his choice of final planting. In addition to aesthetics, he also looks at the usefulness of the plants for the (bio)diversity and their usefulness for us (edible plants ).We also really enjoyed working alongside Steven during the actual landscaping and planting. We are really enjoying our new garden and would definitely recommend Steven for yours!(Attached pictures are from the garden a year after installation)

We are very happy to have met Steven from Harvest the rain. He's a pleasant, enthusiastic guy. Whilst being very busy, he still made time for us.we've met and in a couple of weeks he was ready for the job.I had loads of requests, and he had met them all: I wanted a lot of different plants for biodiversity (50 kinds) it was worth the fee for him making the planing plan, I wanted to reuse most of the tiles. And I didn't want all straight lines. And he made us a sign drawing that was spot on. He made a "Wadi" not al of the plants are obviously in bloom but here's a small impression of our formally all paved garden: the grass is real but it's so green you'd think it's fake, all of the plants Steven told me are thriving.he knows his stuff

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm in this review but also throughout the entire project! I loved working on it with you, since you had the exact goals in mind that I love working on :-). I’m excited see the plants slowly come to live and I’m sure all pollinators will know how to find you this season!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I fell in love with food forestry during a tour in one during my masters of Global Business and sustainability in Rotterdam (the Netherlands). From that point on I promised myself I would venture out and design outdoor spaces based on the principles of food forestry. Ever since that moment I have been developing food forests (urban and suburban), edible school playgrounds and sustainable residential landscaping!

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Meet up with some and choose the one that feels like it represents you closest and has creative ideas that match your style and preferences! Don’t sell yourself short; landscaping can really change your surroundings for the better. (:
