Introduction
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate with a passion for helping couples and families thrive. I provide affordable counseling to maximize my reach in the community because everyone deserves quality services. I practice using various Family Systems Theories which I believe better serve my clients. Laura was a great Couples Counselor. Laura maintained the utmost level of professionalism balanced with a sincere and sensitive personal touch without seeming aloof. She was flexible and balanced in all regards. For example, she permitted us to feel that we were getting what we felt that we needed from counseling while at the same time diplomatically challenging us to explore the deeper issues that she perceived necessary based upon her expertise. My partner and I had both been to see counselors in the past and so therefore came to the first session with specific ideas of what we were looking to get out of counseling sessions. While many professionals might have been put off by clients coming to the table with their own ideas of how they wanted sessions to go, Laura was very understanding and accepting of our perceived needs. She was willing to work with us initially in damage control – keep the relationship together mode – then to change course with agility as we passed through the danger zone and delved into the fundamental challenges of the relationship. She helped us navigate a number of issues that put stress on our relationship such as unemployment, a sense of inequality in responsibility and accountability, gender roles, jealousy, differences in platonic/social interest outside the relationship, sense on dependence vs independence based in part on my partner being dependent on me for a green card. We recommend Laura with the utmost of confidence. We have certainty that she will continue to provide her clients with a high level of personable and professional counseling.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

    I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling from St. Edward's University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. I previously worked as a Research Assistant for Austin Marriage Project, a study that examines how couples grow and change over the first few years of marriage and what factors contribute to strong, healthy marriages. This experience helped inform my passion for helping others flourish in their lives and their relationships. I am currently under supervision at Austin Family Institute, a premier training and education facility for Marriage and Family Therapists. My work with AFI includes weekly seminars to continue my education, opportunities to work with other therapists (including the directors) on co-therapy cases, and more. I am currently supervised by Liz Gentry, M.A., LPC-S, LMFT-S.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

    Mental health care can be very difficult to find - especially affordable care. If you do not have insurance, or do not want to be limited to the type of care your insurance will cover, my affordable services can be beneficial for you. It's also important to connect with your therapist which is why I am happy to provide a free 15-minute phone consultation.
