Marissa Leonard says, "We had an interior roof leak after recent storms. I knew we needed to have the roof inspected. I called Michael and explained the situation. He was efficient and prompt, visited my house the same day, and made a temporary repair to prevent further water damage. Michael was communicative when the rain caused us to need to reschedule. When the repair time came, Michael was on time and thorough with the repairs on the roof. He fulfilled the contract and sent before during and after photos to support his work.I really appreciated his approach to share his findings on my roof for free and then walk me through his recommendations for a repair. As someone in the property insurance claims industry who has seen many horror stories from contractors, Michael is someone I would trust again because of his professionalism, care, and thorough work. Thanks again Michael!"

Amy Shillinglaw says, "Firstly, Jim McBride might be the nicest person I've met in a long time, but that's not the reason I am a repeat customer of Avanti Roofing and recommend them to friends, acquaintances, AND strangers. Jim provides world-class customer service. If you are investing $20K in a brand new roof, he makes sure it happens efficiently and he's not going to nickel and dime you if a few minor things come up during the install that might cost $200-300 in overages. He is extremely responsive, prompt, and follows through on all requests, and with a joyful smile. My most recent experience: Last year, Avanti repaired our roof and chimney. After a massive storm a few days ago, our fireplace was dripping, with flue closed. Odd. He arranged to stop by same day he got the message. Once here, he climbed on our steep-pitch roof, analyzed the chimney and surrounding flashing, and proceeded to caulk and nail down anything potentially suspect. He didn't call a crew, he did it himself right then, then checked the attic for leaks (none found, thankfully). And he didn't charge me, although I insisted. Small job, addressed within 1 day, completed, complimemtary and it's about to rain again. I still want to pay him for his time, energy, and expertise. This experience embodies stellar customer service. I wasn't expecting this level of service and I'm super grateful."

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

There are several reasons why it’s worth it to hire a professional roofer instead of attempting it yourself. The first is safety. Roofing is inherently dangerous, as a fall from a roof could seriously injure or kill you. Roofers have specialized equipment and training to help prevent accidents.

Next is experience. Roofers know how to spot problems (leaks, missing shingles, moss or mold growth, etc.)  in your roof that could potentially save you from costly repairs down the road.

And finally, roofers save you time by getting the job done quickly and with a high degree of quality.

Experts typically recommend that you have your roof professionally inspected at least once a year. But you also may want a licensed professional to inspect your roof during these circumstances:

  • You're buying or selling a home
  • You're filing an insurance claim
  • Before or after a contractor does major work on your roof

Search the Thumbtack site for experienced roof inspectors near you. You can contact them directly to set up a time to conduct the inspection, and learn more about their pricing structure and services.

Roof inspectors are trained to look for signs of a failing roofing system that could lead to damage — especially water and structural damage. Your home's roofing materials may look great from the ground, but it's difficult to see potential damage unless you take a closer look. A roof inspector can do just that.

During an inspection, the professional will typically look for issues that may have occurred during installation and manufacturing. They’ll also keep an eye out for damage caused by normal wear and tear, as well as extreme weather events. They might also access your attic to see if there are signs of a leak in your roof.

Here’s a short list of common things a contractor will look out for during a roof inspection:

  • Damage caused by hail, wind, snow and rain
  • Missing, broken, buckling, curling or cracked shingles
  • Roof decay, rot, moss, mildew and mold
  • Rust around the flashing
  • Damaged chimneys and vents
  • Holes, gaps and punctures that could cause a roof leak
  • Water stains and ventilation issues

Hiring a roofing inspector prevents you from having to do the dangerous work of climbing onto your roof. Plus, inspectors know how to assess potential damage and determine the best way to repair your roof and prevent the need for more expensive repairs in the future.
