Thank you Jonathan for doing a quick job on our demo. The work was done neatly and your punctuality was helpful in expediting other trades contractors. Thank you so much. I will save your number and call on you anytime I need work done in the future.

Quality: The finish they did was great! Matched other rooms very well. Getting a good texture match was important to me. Professionalism: Team was polite and courteous. Responsiveness: Joel always responded via Thumbtack quickly. I always knew the status of the work and when he thought they would be finished. Value: His bid was not the cheapest nor the most expensive. I find you get what you pay for -- and for the quality of work, what he bid was very reasonable. Punctuality: In general, very punctual. Our first day the team was a little late (got hung up at the supply store), but they hustled over as fast as they could. Otherwise, they finished when I expected they would. Other remarks: Popcorn removal is a messy process -- this case was no exception. While they did an admirable job covering the floors, and trying to minimize the impact, dust still got everywhere - even in parts of the house where they weren't working. There was also texture splatter here and there, but they cleaned it up without complaint. Expect that this process will require you paint your walls in the rooms where it is done. The ceiling will look so much nicer it will make your walls look awful. If you plan to paint your walls, wait and do popcorn removal first. :D They also were game to take on a little extra item here and there (we negotiated $$ as we went). Saved me from having to hire separate contractors later -- so that was a bonus. Having worked with a lot of sub-contractors and home improvement projects, the work was done very well. The dust / mess I can clean-up (and frankly, it was expected). Solid A overall.

Ryan and crew were more than I could have hoped for. I provided exacting specs for the job I wanted done, and they delivered — even suggesting improvements along the way to yield an even better end result than I could have hoped for. They removed a pass-thru wall air conditioner for me, reinforced the structure once the hole was wide open, added insulation, and then covered the exterior with OSB plywood and hardie lap siding and painted, per spec. Interior, they patched with drywall, taped and floated, then painted. Great work, will use them again.

Mario was responsive from beginning to end and was quick to get started on our project. He was able to start next day! He consistently showed up when he said he would unlike many contractors that we have worked with. He took care of the project in less time than he estimated and the work was quality - outside of a small break in our light fixture which he offered to cover to ensure our satisfaction. I would highly recommend Mario!

He is a dream come true. We've hired many contractors in the past and have ALWAYS had a problem that had to be dealt with. This was not so for Manuel. He's very professional and very clear about what he will do and exactly how much it will cost. He is extremely careful to keep furniture and floors clean and safe. His prices are extremely reasonable. We will always call him first for any other jobs we need done. Great guy!!!

Okay so the job I asked for was admittedly simplified, but when Bill and Tony showed up they immediately sized up the job and began work immediately. They removed the existing cabinets and placed them in my garage for later use. Then they installed the new light fixtures, patched and painted the wall and installed the new cabinets. I was impressed at this point, but when the Master Electrician came to inspect the electrical work, I was amazed! My wife is so happy with the work that I have been given permission to hire Fixed again to install the old cabinets in my garage! Stay tuned, guys! And great touch with the door mat and shoe covers! That was the icing on the cake for my wife! Thank again!

He went over and above in doing extras that my previous contractors hadnt and made the place look amazing with the paint job High reccommended

We were in a rut after a hidden leak from our dishwasher consumed most of our summer trying to find contractors to get the job done. After many failed attempts from the previous contractor, we thought we were going to go with, I decided to look on Thumbtack for any ray of hope. Low and behold we found TUR construction. Erwin and his team came right over to assess the damage and get a game plan going in less than 24 hours! We couldn't believe we struck gold with our new contractor including the professionalism and confidence they exuded was exactly whom we were looking for from the get go! Today, we have the full use of our kitchen back in working order bc of TUR Construction and enough time left in the summer to enjoy our renovations! Thank you Erwin and team!

Galactic did a great, professional job on our remodel. They installed new windows, framing, Sheetrock, exterior hardy replacement and painted the home inside and out. They even stepped in and fixed some poor work we had another contractor do. They are the real deal.

Joe at Drywall Specialties is great. He is very professional and achieves this by being very responsive, communicative, punctual and knowledgeable (he has decades of experience). He happily receives feedback and will make corrections if needed. Joe responded to my texts quickly, adapted to last minute changes I made, was punctual every day and provided me with lots of information about the job. He stuck to his estimate and did extras without charge. I am happy with the work-popcorn scraping, ceiling floating, door installation and new drywall/walls.

Bill did an all around, good job for me. He did my dry wall repair that I needed and then added texture to the walls in the kitchen and large Master Bath. Additionally, I had him demo an old backsplash in the kitchen and put up a new Travertine backsplash. Easy to work with. Will work with again.

Ross and Marc did a fantastic job on my tile project, I was growing more and more frustrated with dealing with one contractor after another and never getting a set schedule or price even after them coming to measure. Once I got Ross on the phone my whole project seemed to fall into place. UK Construction are the ones for you.

A&J remodeled our entire kitchen and pantry. We've taken on a few projects in our home over the past few years and Alfonso is by far the best contractor that we've worked with. He was recommended to us by a home builder that we know and trust - he previously worked with Alfonso and had showed me pictures of the work he did. A&J remodeled our kitchen, including: new custom cabinets, new countertops and backsplash, new appliances / hardware / oven hood, and built custom pantry cabinets to accommodate an awkwardly spaced closet we have in the kitchen. We received 3 bids for the project and Alfonso was in line with the others - we decided to go with A&J based on the referral from our contact. From the beginning, Alfonso was very responsive and punctual. During the project, he and his crew were very clean and organized - during the demo days they picked up each day and covered all of our floors/belongings in plastic to protect from dust. We made a few adjustments to our plan during the project which he was able to accommodate, and he provided great ideas to help us with some of our decision making (e.g., how to set up the marble backsplash around the new oven hood). The few minor things we asked him to fix following the project (a cabinet handle was slightly off, our dishwasher wasn't completely attached), he came over immediately to adjust. We would 100% recommend Alfonso for any work to your home.

We had two flat screen TV's mounted on the wall. The technician who performed this work was knowledgeable, patient, and asked questions to make sure the work was being done to our wants and needs. He made excellent suggestions on how to achieve what we wanted and executed the duties appropriately. He concealed the wiring beautifully. Once the jobs were completed, he cleaned up the job site and made sure we were satisfied with the work. We would definitely have him do more work for us.

Hired Cre8Stone to repair 2 foot and 6 inch crack in stucco under bedroom window as well as caulking around that window, study window and end of rock facing in front of home. Stucco/caulking team repaired the surface and matched stucco texture perfectly. Paint team matched exterior paint color perfectly. Repainted the entire wall where the major stucco repair was done. The final result blends with the original and repair work can not be detected. Both teams were skilled, courteous and professional

Homerun construction came in to repair a wall in my kitchen that had been water damaged as well as part of my roof. I would definitely use this company again, their work was excellent and they were very friendly! The owner of the company showed up twice a day to check on their work, first in the morning and then in the evening. When one guy would finish their part of the job the next guy would show up within 30 minutes and start on their part. I’m super impressed, great quality workmanship!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
