Andy with taking it outdoors installed an arbor and water feature in our backyard. I would like to say he provided an accurate quote, takes pride in his workmanship, and pays great attention to detail. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for landscaping.

We hired Eric and his team for our 10'x20' concrete patio addition/pergola, they did a fantastic job. We met with a few contractors prior to Eric coming out, once he was able to meet with us, he was able to show his expertise and really made us feel comfortable. For our project, we told Eric that we wanted to get a pergola with the idea of getting a outdoor fireplace in the future. He did a great job to explaining the structural implications of the fireplace and how we can prepare for it now. Eric said that it would take about a week to get everything completed, unfortunately weather did not allow that, but his team was more than willing to make sure that the project was still completed in an ideal time. His team was very polite, easy to work with and even did a great job of keeping the yard/patio clean when they were completed. Needless to say, we will definitely be going with Eric and his team again for our fireplace and possible outdoor landscaping. If you are looking for a very respective contractor/team, you will want to go with this team. Thanks again for working with us to make sure that we got exactly what we needed.

Fernando did a marvelous job on staining my fence and arbor. Gave me a same day visit with a quote and showed up a couple days later and now it's done! Looks great and was done quickly and efficiently. His crew also made sure to prep well so no overspray got on our house or cars. He's very nice.

Luis and Carlos were prompt with the details, qoute and drawings for our back yard, pool and outdoor kitchen restoration project. The workmanship on the outdoor kitchen was great but the wood work and doors are less than desirable. I have had to rebuild all doors and the frame. I still have a leak in the corner were the pergola and porch meet. They have tried to fix on a couple of attempts but still leaks on my burners in the outdoor kitchen. The pool restoration was as they said it would be in a timely manner with the colors we wanted. Overall we enjoy our pool restoration and outdoor kitchen. Except for the woodwork with the doors and the leak when it rains on our burners. Louis and Carlos are professional and worked with us and the contractors to the best they could to meet our desires and needs for the restoration.

We recently purchased a home and one thing that drew us to this home was the color of it. It drew in its surrounding landscape ever so tranquil . The backyard trellis was in need of some tlc, so we decided to have it stained. We were referred to Jeff to stain the trellis for us. (He is also the painter that painted the house). Jeff was very accommodating. He gave us a quote, showed up a few days later to powerwash, pick out a color and another couple of days later returned to paint on the stain. It looks fabulous. I would recommend Jeff for your painting and handyman needs. Very satisfied customers Sean and Christine

It is my great pleasure to recommend Jony's Remodeling. Jony has completely remodeled our bathrooms and kitchen, put in gorgeous hardwood floors, updated our staircase with all new, stunning materials, painted the exterior of our home, replaced all gutters, built a new fence, and built a beautiful backyard oasis including a cedar pergola and stone bbq area. Personally and professionally, Jony is a star!!! He and his crews are trustworthy, honest, dependable, and extremely fair. They are neat in their work and leave your home free of clutter and debris. I have found that these are frequently rare qualities when working with a contractor. Myra, Jony's wife, works very closely with Jony and customers to keep everyone informed and in the know. They, along with their crews, have strong Christian values and a high degree of integrity in all they do. Please feel free to contact my husband or me as a reference.

When I hired Jason to do some remodeling to the exterior of my home he came up with the most amazing designs which I feel in love with. He was able to complete all projects in a timely manner which included the painting of the exterior of my home and designed an enterance way & pergola/arbor for my backyard which blew me away. I now have a home both inside and out that I LOVE. I get so many compliments and my friends and family are in awe of what was created. UNIQUE & ONE OF A KIND!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND JASON/RED RIVET DESIGN!

Hoosier Bros. did a good job of evenly staining my fence, deck, and pergola. Based on their performance, and Al's agreement with me on additional pricing, I added some work in other areas. We got my house ready to go on the market on time, and it sold! While we had some tricky weather to work around, overall I was satisfied with the work.

Rick built 3 raised garden beds in our back yard. He enclosed them with a wooden structure and chicken wire to keep critters out. While I was planting squash, he created and built a solution to replace a standard trellis for them to grow on with spare wood & chicken wire from the project. If you value a craftsman who takes pride in his work and even cleans up after himself, Rick is your guy!

Bill Jones of Martin and Son Construction built an outstanding custom pergola for me. His detail work is far from ordinary. The stained cedar he used is beautiful and will last for many years to come. He was on time and kept me well informed on every aspect of construction. In spite of the daily rain that turned to extremely hot days, my pergola was completed in a timely manner. Bill delivers good quality work at competitive prices and is very dependable. My pergola is absolutely beautiful and I look forward to spending many enjoyable days using it. I will definitely call on him for any future projects. Bill is not just a carpenter, he is a true craftsman.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

    Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
