I am so happy with Mr. Gamez and his crew! They came in and did tape and bed and textured the whole upstairs that we have rebuilt in our 1892 farmhouse. He was very knowledgeable, professional and absolutely timely with it all. It all turned out better than I could have imagined. I highly, highly recommend him and his work. We even added two bathroom tile jobs for him and the work started the next day. Seriously satisfied with work, price, and professionalism.

Excellent work! Juan & Alex were professional and knowledgeable the items I needed repaired & installed (shower rods, train rack, door hing adjustments). They had all the tools - especially to install into tile, were on time, worked quickly, & cleaned up well. I am very happy with the work & I will definitely hire Juan & his crew again!

We hired Steve originally for a shower faucet repair (something that had previously been "fixed" by a different plumber) and he was great- no further problems with the shower. The second time, we needed him to repair a busted pipe that caused us to turn the water off. He came within the hour!! He is trustworthy and very fair. We will absolutely continue to call him whenever we have any problems.

Michael and Bryan were excellent throughout the whole job. I had all three bathroom floors done in tile and the whole process was great. They finished sooner than expected and pricing was good value. Like all reno jobs I've had done with my current house, there were updates/modifications I had to add to the tile job to suit my vision and Michael was able to go with the flow on that. Obviously there was a charge for that but nothing unreasonable and he was nice enough to add some items at no charge. I'd like to mention that for most of the job I was out of town and had to give him the keys to the place. At first I was very worried due to past contractor experience but now that the job is over I can say that I'm totally comfortable with him & bryan in my place without me being there. Now I have a floor guy I can trust which makes future floor jobs that much easier. Note: While he mainly focuses on floors (wood, tile) he will also do bathroom showers as well which I'm considering redoing in my master bath. (But only with past customers.) Overall a good experience and I will be using him next month for my hallway and laundry tile job. See you in january Michael & bryan!

Billy saved us when we got in a tight spot when our previous contractor fell through on tiling our bathroom. He was great with communicating with us quickly and reliably and had his crew out and finished within our short time frame. The guy he sent was incredible - fast but thorough. He even went above and beyond, fixing our bowed bathtub so the tile would be straight. A great company with great people.

Mitchell was able to complete several things we needed done on our home renovation. He was very honest, trustworthy, and helpful. To name a few things he completed: retired a bathroom floor and repaired some areas of tile in another bathroom and laundry room, converted 3 laundry chute into a cabinet, disconnected some air ducts from an old garage conversion, fixed a bathroom knob, soldered some valves and a few other things. He was willing to get materials and submit receipts. I will surely use him again when needed.

All of the work was done with excellent professionalism. All of the unforseen things that come with a remodel, were easily handled by Mitchell, my contractor. Plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, tile...Im not sure there's anything he can't get put together. I am extremely happy with the job, and I get a million compliments. I have, and will continue to recommend them to anyone who asks.

Dominick know his stuff. He bid the job competitively and started the job within 48 hours. We had Dominick redo some shoddy tile work that another contractor did in a bathroom. What a night and day difference! Dominick's work is first rate and he was friendly and responsive to requests throughout the project. He even went the extra mile and helped us fix a plumbing issue while he was there. I recommend Dominick to anyone needing quality tile work done efficiently.

Nathan and his crew came in and floored our house with laminate. They did an outstanding job. Based on their work on the flooring, we also had them come in and re-tile our bathtub and texturize our bathroom walls. My husband and I couldn't be happier with the results, and we have received many compliments on the floor and bathtub. We will use Nathan's company again for future projects.

Brandon is very knowledgeable about flooring and was able to rescue us from the disaster that a previous crew had left us with. We had him and his brother install hardwood floors in most of the house and tile in the bathroom. Overall we are happy with the job they did. They were friendly and trustworthy.

Leo was always punctual, very polite and professional. He really went above and beyond for us. Leo met me at Home Depot to pick up supplies needed for my bathroom remodel and while I was there he even brought home a front entry door that had been delivered to the store for me. He always had a great attitude and did great work. I highly recommend him!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install tile?

Tile installation costs vary widely depending on the tiles you choose, where you want them installed, and what kind of demolition and surface preparation you need to have done. The national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The more tiles that need to be cut by hand and laid on the surface, the higher the total cost. Tile installation professionals can handle many different types of stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles, applying them in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and entranceways. They can create anything from artistic mosaic backsplashes in your kitchen to modern shower enclosures to rustic patios in your backyard. Tile installation professions often can remove existing flooring or old tiles and replace drywall. Tile prices range from $1 to more than $50 per square foot — handmade ones are even priced individually — depending on the material. Rustic, handmade or special-use tiles cost more to install because they must be applied to the surface one by one, rather than in a sheet. For most jobs, tile installation costs are based on the square footage of the project. For example, a standard 6-foot by 8-foot shower tile installation can average $1,200-$1,600, depending on whether the tiles go to the top of the shower or to the ceiling. The total cost of a tiling project also includes the grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps, and tile mounting materials like backer board.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
