The thing that made me choose Tiffany over all the other makeup artists on this site was her 1 negative review (145 positive reviews). Most people don’t even respond to negative reviews but Tiffany responded, explained what happened, apologized and offered her services to this client in the future. That really won me over. I live about an hour and 15 minutes+ from Tiffany. She booked a hotel room in my city the night before just so that should could make sure that she arrived on time for my special day! She was 5 minutes early. I’m sure the hotel room cost just as much as her very reasonable price for the services she provided which means she cares more about growing her brand than profit. I do not wear makeup at all and didn’t want heavy makeup. Tiffany went over everything with me and gave me the look I desired. She also brought her own chair and lighting which I thought was amazing. She was very professional and friendly and she has a client for life. I will refer her to all my friends and anyone who asks. Thank you so much Tiffany for helping make my day amazing!

I could not have hired a better makeup artist/hair stylist for my event. The makeup looked absolutely wonderful on my skin, she provided options, advice and listened to what I wanted and did not want. Ultimately, everything was under my control and if I need to change something, it was made possible. The look I envisioned in my mind was recreated and I felt like a glamorous movie star. Thank you again, Kodi.

This was our first time hiring a professional for a special event. I spent several hours over several days viewing and browsing through different make-up artists and hair stylists on multiple sites. We wanted someone that could do both hair and makeup. We were quite nervous as this was a special occasion for our daughter. I received quite a few quotes from different stylists. Most of them just did hair or makeup. After looking at Shannon Briannes gallery of photos and Bio we decided to hire her. Shannon communicated via text before our event. She asked pertinent questions about the look we wanted to achieve as well as any photos of the attire and hair ideas we liked or had in mind. She texted us the day before to confirm as well as the the day of the event. The day of the event Shannon showed up early and prepared! We were blown away by the sheer talent and vision she brought as well as how she dealt with the nerves of a teenager and a house full of kids. She was so amazing we hired her again the next day for a different event! Shannon is truly an ARTIST in every sense of the word! We feel extremely blessed and thankful we found someone so talented.

Carolina is so nice and so talented, I really look forward to each time I get to work with her. She is my go-to for anything makeup and hair. She uses great products and she is very gentle. I am always amazed at how my skin almost looks better after working with her. As someone who gets their makeup done all the time, this is a rarity. Most of the time my skin looks damaged or irritated for days after, but not with Caro. Seriously she is the best and SO easy to work with.

Where do i start?! Jasmine was beyond my expectations, i asked for soft and romantic and she made me feel so beautiful! She prepped my skin so well before the glam and my skin was loving all the products she was putting on my skin! It’s like you are getting a skin therapist and a makeup artist all in one! She definitely knows what she is doing and i would recommend her for soft look and bold looks as well she can do it all! Not only that she has a great personality that makes you feel very confident in her work ethic and her overall performance as a makeup artist!

Montanna Rae is a rare and gifted soul. She isn't just in the hair and makeup business, she is in the "calming you down things are going to be perfect- leave it to me, I got this" business. Montanna Rae worked with me until we got the "look" right. Even offering to make and find other hair accessories, and different kinds of make up. She's does and is willing to do what it takes to make YOU, yes you, happy and confident.Honestly, she works magic- and in a fog of hairspray and pins, what she creates is nothing short of art. It's hard to find a business that 's based on the needs/wants of clients. Montanna Rae hits the nail on the head- she is truly there for you and WILL make you look exactly how you'd like on your special day. Seriously, stop looking around and get Montanna Rae on your glam squad. The best money you will spend during your event.XOS

I have never had the best experiences getting makeup done by other artists, so for prom I really wanted it to be done well. Misha's responsiveness to every detail of my face, her patience in understanding what I wanted, and her execution of it was beyond amazing! The best part about having your makeup done by Misha is that rather than transforming your face into someone else by bombarding your skin with 100 different products, she flawlessly accentuates your natural features with products she knows would best suit your skin. Overall, very pleased with my experience with Misha. Her work is absolutely stunning!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a hair extension?

A hair extension is a beauty product designed to give you the appearance of longer and/or fuller hair. Hair extensions are made of synthetic material or real human hair and are attached to your natural hair by a variety of techniques such as a weave (sewing), hot fusion, tape-in, cold fusion, bonding, metal clips, micro ring or micro loops, and more. The type of technique you select as well as the quality and volume of the hair you choose all affect cost. Hair extensions can last anywhere from three weeks to six months, depending on the application technique. For example, tape-in extensions may last approximately four weeks, while extensions applied using a hot fusion technique may stay in for up to six months. The hot fusion technique takes longer, costs more, and requires more training on the part of the hair stylist, but the result is more natural-looking extensions that can be washed and heat-styled with confidence.

What is a mobile hairdresser?

A mobile hairdresser is a cosmetologist trained to cut, color and style hair who can provide hairdressing services at remote locations. Often, mobile hairdressers are hired for events such as weddings, bachelorette parties, prom night, birthdays and other occasions. The hairstylist can come to your location to do your hair, or provide hairstyling for your group.

For events, mobile hairstylists more often provide updos and formal styles than highlights or hair color. Mobile hairdressers bring all the necessary hairstyling tools and products such as lotions and sprays to create your look. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110. Pricing for different services can vary greatly depending on stylist reputation, training and regional rates. For example, haircuts could range between $35 and $150, while hair coloring services could range in price from $65 to $200. Some mobile hairstylists may include the cost of travel in their fees, while other may have it as an added charge, such as 50 cents to $1 for each mile beyond their standard service range.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

  • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
  • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
  • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
  • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
  • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How much should you tip a hairstylist?

A hairstylist can provide you with a cut, color or highlights, or style your hair for an event. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110, but prices can vary greatly depending on the service you receive, where you live, and the salon’s or hairdresser’s reputation. A good rule of thumb is to tip your hairstylist 20 percent of your total bill. In smaller towns, 15 percent may be the norm, but in larger cities 20 percent is generally the baseline. If you frequent a salon where the shampooer, colorist, and hair cutter are all different people, you can divide that 20 percent among those service providers in proportion to the skill level and time required to do their job. Many hairstylists rent a chair from the salon and must pay a monthly rent to the salon owner.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
