Highly recommend Scott for piano tuning... Hire with confidence. Prices low but very high value: expert, patient, precise, thorough, and nice as can be. Plus took my obscure song requests to test it out and - just WOW - worth the price by itself. Big thumbs up!

Chris was excellent!! Very knowledgeable about what genre of music to play and when to play it! Lighting was great! We were trying to do a line dance and couldn't quite get the steps to the beat 1and he knew EXACTLY why and played the song we needed! Then our line dance turned out great! I will definitely hire him again when we need a DJ and would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs a DJ!

She is very patient and knowledgeable. She got to know me and my needs individually. Getting me prepared for a talent show, she catered my lessons to my needs. She is a awesome instructor, with prices that won't break the bank. She is worth every penny and much more! I can feel and hear my voice improving!

About 6 months ago I answered an ad about Jon's guitar instruction because I was interested in improving my playing and music knowledge. I was also interested in finding the right guitar teacher for my son. Even though, at first, he was a little farther away than I would have liked, that doesn't matter any more. The distance for me is a small price to pay. I have found that Jon's teaching method and ability to communicate well has done wonders. My fret board knowledge and how to approach playing and learning has vastly improved in just a few months. He has done the same for my son who remains interested and engaged. Practicing has become fun and not a chore. Jon is not a miracle worker...you will have to practice…but he will show you how to piece it all together according to whatever knowledge and ability you already have…or don’t have. He does it with the practical aspects of playing and throwing in just enough theory to help you understand what you're doing and why you're doing it. I think that's one of the things I like the best--his dedication to making the instruction fit to each and every individual student. He makes it fun and challenging. It's NOT a cookie cutter system. He will help you go as far as you want as a guitarist and you’ll have fun getting there.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for setting me up with Hubert Pralitz and James Michael Williams to play at our wedding back in June in McKinney. They did a fantastic job! For many years I dreamed of having live classical music playing at my ceremony and that was a detail I did not want to pass up on. It was something I had to have and these two delivered and made my dream come alive in more ways than one. You have no idea. They have no idea. All of my guests have commented on how beautifully they both played. The icing on the moment was when they played while my friend sang The Prayer. I cannot convey how much that song means to me and it was a detail that I had to make happen. And boy did it happen! It was truly beautiful! As I watch the video it amazes me that they never rehearsed together yet they all meshed so beautifully as if they had done this many times before. That is a sign of truly talented musicians. My only regret is that I did not get to personally meet Hubert and James after our ceremony therefore I did not get to personally thank them from the bottom of my heart for sharing their talent with us. As you can imagine, after the ceremony things moved very quickly and we were whisked here and whisked there. Before I knew it, they had left and I did not get a chance to speak with them both. If you could do me a huge favor, please let them know how wonderful they were, how much this all meant to me and that I thank you them very much. Feel free to share this email as well. By the way, my friend Desiree had nothing but wonderful things to say about Hubert and James and she was delighted to work with them.

I first contacted Mark after seeing an online advertisement for piano lessons in the Addison area. I mentioned to him that I was interested in learning piano and had absolutely no knowledge of piano, although I did have a background in music as a vocalist and trombonist for a band in college. He cheerfully followed up with me and had me come in to the piano gallery for a preview lesson, introducing me to the basics and making recommendations on keyboards and music. After only a few months of lessons I was on my way to a newly discovered passion. Mark has been instrumental in advancing my musical abilities and has been extremely flexible in scheduling lessons, as well as very adaptable to my abilities.

We found Greg on Thumbtack and went to see him at Sheps in Weatherford while searching for a band for our wedding! Greg was super nice and he entertained the crowd that was there. The entire time he stayed in contact with us while we were picking songs for our wedding. At the wedding he was prompt and went over the top to make it special. I really liked the special song he learned for us and played at our table! It was definitely a night to remember and everyone had good compliments after! I highly recommend him for any event!

Hi my name is Sean Boe, I book music at Paragon Seattle. Jackie Pock Band played at our venue on the first Fri. of every month for the last couple years until they moved to Texas. Jackie (vocals) and Brandon (guitar and vocals) are an absolute joy to be around. They bring positive energy with them wherever they go, and are excellent at crowd interaction and participation. They are very professional when it comes to their booking, playing original songs and both classic and current covers. Oh and did I mention they are both amazing with their instruments?

It is my pleasure to write this recommendation on behalf of Theodore Rulfs, who was my daughter's classical voice mentor/ trainer for over a year. We met Theodore through our church and could not have been more happy with his acquaintance and, furthermore, his gentle and knowledgeable guidance of our daughter in her pursuit of classical singing. Sofia was a Junior in high school when her training started with Theodore, and had already been the lead in several school musicals at that point. She now attends the Classical Voice program at Florida State University, having received a talent-based scholarship from the school to attend. We credit Theodor, in addition to Sofia’s hard work and dedication, with that success. Theodore assisted Sofia not only in refining her voice, but in preparing for her Conservatory entrance exams, which she had both in the United Kingdom, as well as in the USA. He assisted with all levels of that preparation, including coaching the video and live auditions, and spending hours of time and great emotional investment in her selection of songs, poise, and presentation. I might add that he even volunteered to go along with our family to the final filming of her video audition, showing not only his professional investment in our daughter’s success, but his emotional investment, care and generous cultivation of seeing her dreams come to fruition. Theodore multi-lingual technical and interpretive voice lessons to Sofia (German, French, Italian and English) spanned from initial evaluation of her skills to creating an individual plan of training based on her needs, and constantly monitoring that in both her Classical and Broadway-Musical performances. Throughout this process, Theodore kept me frequently up to date, with individual chats, emails, and even sending me as her parent, articles to read and musical links to watch, so that I might properly guide my daughter. Theodore furthermore, encouraged Sofia to ensure balance in her life between her studies, music and social time. He was a great advocate for keeping fit, and for the positive impact of creating a core strength that not only would be important for her voice, but for her emotional well-being.

Lori has played at Mercy Wine Bar for well over a year now and has done a GREAT job. Great "lounge" music and perfect for our venue where our guests come to listen as well as interact with their friends. Lori has a great voice with excellent interpretations of standards and some new material as well. Always a pleasure. Highly recommend.

Travis worked with me on the recording of two albums as a session guitarist. His work employed technicalities that helped shape the future of my band's work. These albums have secured an 8 week tour, and my playing as an experienced guitarist has been influenced by Travis' input. If I could, I would practice with Travis regularly.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
