One of my favorite bands. The Silverado Band played for me on multiple occasions and filled our club to capacity. Great music, awesome entertainment and best of all, great people to deal with. Unlike most other bands, there is no arrogance to deal with in the Silverado Band. Great down home people and a pleasure to work with!

We found Amy through a mutual friend and were so grateful to find her! My son started guitar lessons with Amy in 6th grade and took lessons for about 2years. He went on to play jazz guitar at HSPVA. We credit Amy for giving him that first guitar foundation he needed. Amy has a great talent to match the student with musical interests so that playing was fun, never a chore. She fostered collaboration among her students, giving my son his first chance at playing in a "rock band". Her recitals are fun and more like talent shows; with vocals, piano, guitar, and student bands. Enjoy and learn!

Wow! We can't recommend Los Vertigos more! It was really hard for me to find a local band that would play quality Top 40 cover songs and they met more than our expectations. I really like that they were trustworthy and I didn't have to manage them leading up to the event. They stayed on top of me!

OMG, WOW! WOW! I seriously cannot say enough good things about the Gary-Michael Dahl Band. This band is INCREDIBLE and so much more! We were lucky enough to book them for a company holiday party this year, and they just blew the party away. EVERYONE commented on how awesome the band was. Gary and his band were super friendly and accommodating to our venue and party schedule. We would have them back at any future event in a heartbeat. The whole band is just phenomenal, and you will not be disappointed.

Texas Avenue band performed at Houston Via Colori's 10th annual street painting festival and I couldn't be happier to have had them join us. They have a great sound, everyone was very friendly and easy to work with. They even sang a special birthday song for the festival. Thank you Texas Avenue Band for your professionalism and talent! I hope to work with you guys again soon!

HIRE THIS BAND!!! We hired Ziggy Band for our holiday party, and even though no one danced for 90% of the time, they still played their hearts out as if it were a packed dance floor. Their sound is simply amazing! Pam was great to work with and very accommodating with song selections. The music was so diverse so there was something for everyone, (their videos don't do them justice). I just can't recommend them enough.

Raquel and her band gave us a really strong hour of music. Her vocals are powerful and make you feel her emotions. The band is talented and work well together and they looked like they enjoyed entertaining us. They were very professional in set up and management of their part of the event. They were perfect for our party and we would definitely like to have them back.

Karley is an excellent voice coach. I came in looking to get help on my clean vocals and improve my endurance for a metal album my band was set to record. I was certainly not disappointed when the results came in the form of me being able to crush a 3-day straight recording session with a much improved voice. Her teachings are highly transferable for any genre of music that you are looking to sing. Would highly recommend!

We took a risk on hiring a band instead of the usual musical talent for our corporate event and we couldn't have been more pleased! Everyone had a great time and raved about how good the band was! Going forward I will use them and recommend them to all my friends! Thanks again!

Keeton has been our guitar teacher for over 4 years. My son and I really enjoy our lessons. My son plays guitar and drums and also takes part in the Becoming A Band program. Keeton is personable, knowledgable and very patient. He's very good with young people and adults. I like that the program is fully integrated to take a student from learning an instrument to performing live and eventually songwriting and recording. It's never too late in life to learn an instrument. I highly recommend The Rehearsal Room

About

The instrumentation of British brass bands does away with all the French horns and woodwinds found in the typical American concert band, while including some more instruments that are not normally found there. Instrumentation consists of the following: * Bb flugelhorn * Eb soprano and Bb cornets * Eb tenor horns * tenor and bass trombones * Bb baritones and euphoniums * Eb and Bb tubas * percussion A brass band typically consists of 28 to 35 players. The British-style brass band is not a new development. In the 1800s and into the 20th century, brass bands were popular in America and England. In the 20th century, the American bands began to transform into the current concert band style that is so popular in the schools today, which includes woodwinds. The British, however, kept the older brass band tradition in the form of company and community-sponsored bands. Until today, the tradition continues with lots of new music being written and bands engaging in fierce competition. Today, the British-style brass band has gained popularity in America, and there are some excellent brass bands around the country. Although there is less emphasis here on competition, organizations like the North American Brass Band Association (NABBA) hold concerts regularly.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
