Hired on Thumbtack

Loved Mid-Cities Movers!! One of the guys worked really hard and was efficient. Other guy was new and didn't quite know what he was doing or in shape to help. They were very accommodating for the lack of help! I would use MCM again!

Hired on Thumbtack

I am so unsatisfied by the service I received. I moved from Dallas to Fredericksburg and the owner gave me an estimate of $1,000 after I told him I had another quote on Thumbtack for the same amount. He asked me the size of my apartment (one bedroom studio), and what things I had in it. The morning of the move the owner and a very nice woman arrived to move us, it was a nice start but it soon changed when he discovered I had an IKEA bed, he said it would cost $200 dollars more because of the bed. I did not argue price with him, I simply agreed. He continued to complain again and again and again as he took it apart and even more when he had to put it back together. Twice he told the woman “you do it before I break something”. I was very disappointed in his attitude, which persisted throughout the move. The woman was very gentle with my things and my boxes, while I even saw him throw one. I had never moved before and so I packed with boxes I bought at Lowes, I assumed they could carry everything and made two with primarily book boxes(I am a teacher). He grumbled about this too, a lot, I felt like my father was scolding me. He had no alternatives for me; he carried the book box (2nd floor apartment) down to the trunk and continued to complain. We asked the woman if the dolly could be used to move the heavy box, she herself said she didn’t understand why he didn’t either. We had to open both boxes in the new apartment and carry them little by little upstairs. He lost two screws while disassembling the bed and after looking carefully, he found one, the other appeared later in the wrapping he used for the wooden parts. When removing my washer/dryer he found water in some tube behind the dryer and let it all fall on the wooden floor, he made a mess. There was water with bits of fabric on the laundry room floor and some on my kitchen floor. The woman dried the kitchen side a bit but I still checked the laundry room after he’d moved both appliances out and he had just left with the same mess he caused. I cleaned the area obviously, because I do plan to get my deposit back, which will reimburse my additional IKEA bed charge. I found my labeled kitchen/glass box that I wrapped everything in BUBBLE WRAP I bought at Lowes upside down when I was going through the boxes, and two things inside of it were broken. After assembling my IKEA bed we had two extra screws… I had to ask him to double check a corner where the parts were not connecting properly, he had lost his tool, grumbled looking for it and he basically just pushed the two parts together. My mattress arrived so dirty, I was shocked to find it so so dirty… I bought the mattress two years ago, I saw it come out of the box IN my apartment, and it had never been moved until this move, it was so dirty. It even had a super clear filth line going down the middle of where he laid it against the trunk walls; ironically the backside was cleaner than the side I sleep on. I was so upset. He never told me to cover it, and I had just packed the bedding that morning in a bag I put in my car, I could have easily have covered it. I decided to relax and wait to write a review. I didn’t want to write a bad one, the woman had been very nice and careful, even if he had not. Today we finally got around to doing laundry, of course they are very dirty but the hoses that go from the washer to the water plumbing are backwards… I do not have tools to change it, and I cannot do laundry until I fix it. If I set the washer to cold water, it activates the cold water hose and gets hot water and won’t run, if I set it to hot water, it activates the hot water hose and gets cold water and won’t run. Overall, the woman was very professional and nice; the man was whiny, rude (scolding me for how I packed and for simply BUYING FURNITURE FROM A WELL-KNOWN STORE). He told me if I ever went to Ikea I should “tell them your mover says they’re idiots”… Seriously?! He whined, and whine, and whined. I understand he was upset that ONE bed complicated his work but he asked for an additional sum of money, I didn’t argue, and that should be that. I had two extra screws from my bed after it was assembled, my boxes underwent trauma and my glass box didn’t fully make it, my washer wasn’t set up properly, and I got my bed dirty. 2/5
Mid-Cities Movers's reply
the boxes she is speaking of are large boxes never meant for books or took 3 of us to lift them on my shoulder so I could carry them down. She did not furnish a plastic cover for her mattress I would have been more than happy to cover it for her. The washer has water in it and the lint was from her washing clothes for however long she lived there. the bed was put together with plastic dowels that were damaged from whoever put the bed there before. There were no instructions to the bed and I did the best I could at getting it apart and moving it without damaging it. IKEA beds are the worst at the engineering. I apologize if to the customer for getting frustrated about the bed but it was quite difficult to get it apart and get it out back together. There are situations where we get out on a move and what we thought was not going to be difficult turns into much more than difficult. If she had simply asked a few questions about this move I would have been happy to point out some things to her so that her move would have been much smoothly. I rarely run into a customer that has no idea about how to move and had never moved before in her life. Again I am sorry that the move didn't go smoothly but everything arrived with no damage and her bed went back together in one piece. I have no idea about the washer unless it is a rare occurrence where the hot and cold water outlets are backwards from the way they were supposed to be. The cold water is normally on the right side but I'm very rare occurrence they sometimes put them on the left. I don't know how we could have known that was the case since they aren't labeled
