She worked efficiently and made packing seem less daunting! Had a positive attitude, and even let our puppy "help" her.

Shawna is incredible. I had a sudden personal injury that left me incapable of properly caring for my 14 year old lab with hip dysplasia. I had to transport both he and my 11 year old lab to board at my vet and Shawna did not hesitate to help and immediately put me at ease. She was very caring and professional during a difficult time. She has since been transporting my 11 year old lab to water therapy as well as pet sitting for him and our cat. She is always on time and responsive to texts. She provides easy pay options with Venmo, emails at each interaction and detailed follow up reports. I'm very happy with her service and feel lucky to have found her. I couldn't more highly recommend her.

So glad we found Amy to walk our new puppy during the day. She is reliable and trustworthy. Being a first time dog owner she is a godsend. She has worked with our puppy on house training, basic commands, referred a good vet service for immunization, and the list goes on. Not to mention our pup LOVES her!

By far the best when it comes to exotic boarding. I was nervous about leaving my sulcata tortoise, Jane, while I was gone for a week but I was reassured that she would be well taken care of by someone with experience taking care of exotics. Sure enough I came back to a happy and healthy tortoise. I will definitely be using again to board Jane and will keep them in mind for pet sitting my dogs too! Thanks for taking care of Jane!

Kathy is fantastic, and so easy to work with. This was the first time my dog has ever been professionally groomed, and she took her time with him. He looks and smells amazing, and his coat feels like it did when he was a puppy. I look forward to working with Kathy again. She really is exceptional.

Jennifer did exactly as she promised and then some! She was prompt in her arrival (*we have a Ring door bell that noted her entrance/exit times) and spent a lot of quality time with my cat! I received a text message w/ photo as discussed and to my surprise, a "report card" of how my kitty did while I was gone. (Yay for an A+!) I will definitely plan on hiring her in the future and recommend that everyone needing quality pet sitting services consider her for their future plans!

I only trust Kim with Animal House to care for my dog and home when I travel. Kim is so WONDERFUL with animals- easy to see how much she loves her job! She has stayed in my home over extended times while we were out of the country and shorter weekend trips. I TRULY TRUST her to take care of my home and sweet dog while I am away!

Martha has been a great pet sitter. She works around the tightly-regulated feeding schedule for our cat and shows our kitty lots of care. She sends us a text message every day with a picture so we can see how our cat is doing. We trust her with our senior cat completely and recommend her highly.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32.
