FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It is hard to have a pricing system since each garment is so different. I do charge $10 to hem pants, and $10 for ordinary skirts and dresses, but formal wear is different because the items are all different. Fabrics make a difference and most formal wear is usually lined, which is like 2 garments, sometimes including a petticoat.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I just explain how I'm going to proceed with the job and give them an estimate of how long it will take.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My mom had 4 daughters and she made all of our clothes. I loved to watch her from an early age. She said I wore her out with all the questions. Then I started making clothes for my Barbie dolls, but not modern clothes. I got a book from the library on clothes from the 1800's and I would make clothes from it. I even made the button up shoes. I used some leather gloves and made cork heels. I also started my first quilt at age 13.
