Pete absolutely saved me from a terrible HVAC contractor I hired to install a new condenser. I had Pete come and check out this guy's work and it was completely screwed up! The guy obviously didn't know what he was doing. I can't thank Pete enough for coming out on really short notice and in the evening to undo the mess this guy did. I HIGHLY recommend Pete. He knows what he's doing and is really easy to talk to, approachable, and willing to help. Don't hesitate to hire him for anything HVAC related.

TemperaturePro is a first class organization. We recently had a compressor failure take place on a Sunday, and we had a number of other issues with our aging system. Kelly took our call that morning, and had a tech (Gary) at our house within a couple of hours. He diagnosed the problem and explained the situation clearly to my wife (I was out of town). He also presented us with a few options, and was very open to exploring other potential solutions. We opted to go with a brand-new system to prevent future issues, and we had a full team come in that Tuesday led by Brandon. This team was courteous, professional, and extremely efficient! In exactly 48 hours from the first phone call, they were able to dismantle the old system, install our new HVAC, and have it running! We were also very comfortable with the pricing given the size and specifications of our house, and we feel that we received great value. AC is a critical system in Texas, especially during August, and when it fails your home can rapidly become uninhabitable. Thanks to the quick response, we were able to stay in our house until the new system was running. The team from TemperaturePro is one of the best I have seen, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone in need of HVAC service.

Your search for an A/C contractor is over. Joe is your guy. I have had many A/C men come and go over the years. Joe with the Honey Do Crew was outstanding! Honest Honest Honest! He could have up-charged me at two or three points during the repair process, but being the honest guy he is, chose to tell me what I needed vs. up-sell me into something I did not need. He called to follow-up and made sure all was well. Never had an A/C contractor do that. As long as Joe and his guys are around he will be my A/C guy. Thanks Joe!

Chris did a great job removing the popcorn in on of our bedrooms. We didn't want to pay what the larger painting contractors wanted to charge and we didn't want to do it ourself so Chris was the perfect choice. He showed up when planned and finished in the expected time. Finished product looks great.

Brian's was prompt and on time for all scheduled appointments. They gave excellent advice and thoroughly described the issue my system was having. They replaced a bad ac coil and did so quickly and cleaned up all areas in which they performed work. The quality of the patching around the condenser box system actually looks better than when it was new. I've definitely found a reliable HVAC company to establish a relationship with for our needs going forward. Great job!

Mr Hand has done a lot of work for me at my residence & businesses. He has replaced my upstairs HVAC units & installed 3 new split units. At my businesses he has taken care of all my HVAC issues (clean repair replace) & refrigeration units as well as any and all issues that came up in a timely manner. He is also very respectful (unusual in these days) and very cost effective. I highly recommend him.

Ross and Marc did a fantastic job on my tile project, I was growing more and more frustrated with dealing with one contractor after another and never getting a set schedule or price even after them coming to measure. Once I got Ross on the phone my whole project seemed to fall into place. UK Construction are the ones for you.

Great company, the guys are hard working, fast and do great work. Over the years I've dealt with at least 15 to 20 contractors. Most of the time contractors have a tenancy to tell you they can do any job (even if they don't have experience in doing that kind of work) Strong Arms has a team of pros that actually can do difficult jobs. Daniel Salazar (CEO) makes sure that you are very happy with the work and if there is any touch up work it's done. Again I am pleasantly surprised to have A great contractor with a great crew That takes pride in their work. Daniel Salazar is also a very nice person (gentle giant) and very humble and easy to work with. Cary Home owner?

Luke showed up on time and very well prepared and obviously very experienced in the HVAC trade.I called for an AC tune-up and check what I got was an education that will potentially save us thousands going forward! Our unit is 20 years old and he showed me the wear and tear on it as well as the parts that were still working well. He took the time and carefully explained and showed me the parts how they worked. The preventative maintenance tutorial alone was worth the inspection cost! Give Luke a call as a second opinion before someone tries to jam you with a unit replacement, he'll give it to you straight.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

    • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
    • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
    • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
    • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
      • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
    • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
      • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
    • Your home has humidity problems.
    • Your home has excessive dust.
      • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
    • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
      • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
    • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
      • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
