Jernigans School of Karate provides a very welcoming and structured environment for students of all ages. Master Jernigan commands respect and is a good authority figure for the younger students. He develops you mentally, physically and spiritually by teaching lifelong lessons of self-defense, self-awareness, self-confidence, discipline and respect. As an adult student, the mental training has taught me to be more patient, relaxed, focused and confident. I have also benefited from the physical training as I am able to maintain my weight and I have more energy and stamina.
Mr. Garcia is an excellent teacher who has extensive experience in both the practice and teaching aspects of martial arts. My experience in working with him is that he truly wishes for the best in his students and is exceptionally good at detailing lessons to a students' needs. Both my son and I are students at the Steele School and have been so for 2 years. In addition to being a very talented martial artist and martial arts teacher, Sifu Steele goes the extra distance to teach my son valuable lessons related to character development. As to studying karate myself, it provides many of the actvities/exercise recommended for those of us hitting mid-age, i.e. core strengthening and flexibility. In addition Sifu Steele has created a wonderful environment, for learning and "belonging". The older kids look out for the younger kids, and the adults look out for all. A great place and great decision.
Drake is a great instructor. I took my first BJJ lesson with him and it went fantastic. I'm an absolute beginner and he adapted very well to my novice level. I've seen him train beginners like me along with more seasoned guys and he adapts well to all levels. He is a wonderful instructor and I would recommend him to anyone and everyone.
Justin came out and provided private lessons for me and my two daughters. Honestly I was pleasantly suprised at the volume of information he provided on making sure we have the skills to protect ourselves. We are excited and look forward to the continued training from Justin and his staff.
I took self defense lessons from him for about a year and it helped with my self confidence and took away a lot of fear I had about going out in public, especially evenings alone. He introduced me to moves that I dont think you can learn from anywhere else with the intention of self defense, and not karate, but actual self defense if someone grabbed you from behind. I was very impressed with the knowledge and the care he took to release my fears. I would recommend hum for any woman for self defense.

My daughter is only 4 belts in and is already enjoying the weapons program as well as the leadership program. Her confidence has improved 100% as well as her attitude. Mr. and Mrs. Boyer as well as the other instructors are patient and willing to work with a very wide range of ages and abilities. My daughters favorite thing is competing in tournaments and watching her fellow classmates compete and learning from them.
