This is a great gym! Total body workout with modifications to your own pace and ability. Great place to loose weight, tone up, increase strength and endurance all the while learning some self defense and boxing skill. Great place with great people!

I was so impressed by Derrick my first session. He has so much knowledge to share. My friend referred me to him. I reached out for training in general fitness. He took the time to get to know my interests and body goals. He suggested yoga and martial arts. Working out and self-defense? Yes please! He is patient with coaching. Jernigans School of Karate provides a very welcoming and structured environment for students of all ages. Master Jernigan commands respect and is a good authority figure for the younger students. He develops you mentally, physically and spiritually by teaching lifelong lessons of self-defense, self-awareness, self-confidence, discipline and respect. As an adult student, the mental training has taught me to be more patient, relaxed, focused and confident. I have also benefited from the physical training as I am able to maintain my weight and I have more energy and stamina.

I started taking ACWA self-defense classes not knowing what to expect. The team has an extensive knowledge of self-defense and the ability to help you gain confidence to use the techniques in real life situations. The interactive classes develop a sense of awareness of your surroundings and provide common sense concepts and functional defense based on easy, natural movements, not complicated techniques that require years to learn and execute properly. I have been able to build confidence as they have provided a toolbox to build from moving forward. I started in a class with beginners mixed in with more experienced students and never felt uncomfortable due to their ability to keep everybody engaged. Theyâre great at instructing to match individual students' level of experience and providing feedback without being critical. Learning self-defense at ACWA has been a great experience and I look forward to working with them through more extensive levels of instruction.
I met with Sifu Derrick this past weekend for a one on one self-defense class. With examples he helped me broaden my mind to awareness (of both myself and my surroundings), counteractive maneuvers against an attacker (from how to make and throw a proper punch and/or kick that would make the most impact to showing me maneuvers to prevent an attacker from grabbing you in the first place.) and escape tactics. I highly recommend any single female out there to attend some kind of self-defense course. It enables you to walk away knowing that it is possible that you dont have to be a victim.
