Q&A

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an associate member of the International Association of Business Communicators - Houston. I am a newspaper reporter by trade. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in News-Editorial Journalism from the University of Northern Colorado. I am a lifelong reader with a very discerning eye for detail. The Dow Jones Newspaper Fund named me one of its Top 10 Editing Prospects in 1991-92.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Digital content creation, academic editing, letter-writing and reputation management, primarily.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
The editing I did on a client's entrance essay helped win him admission to the seminary doctoral program he wanted in late-2015. It took 7.86 hours of editing - I severely under bid the project, so that's my loss - but he is delighted with the work, admits it was my work that got him in and hired me again to help complete his doctoral-level work.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Read the portfolio. Check references. Go with your gut.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
1. How much time have you spent writing this document? 2. What is your level of writing skill? 3. Is this a rush project? 4. If we agree to hourly billing, is there a maximum point at which I should stop working and/or advise on hours billed so far?
