We were exceptionally happy with Shorty's Plumbing. He was very thorough, he explained all of the issues with our system and how we could get it all resolved. He did what several other plumbers were unable to do! Would recommend him to anyone!

Little Jon’s plumbing are my hero’s! Working long into the night for two nights Jon would not give up on finding the problem with my plumbing. It turned out that a subcontractor doing work next door had fractured my sewer line and hidden the damage. Jon helped me to provide the information necessary to get the subcontractor to own and repair the line. I really don’t know what I would have done without Jon’s expertise. His prices were competitive and he offered flexible evening hours. I cannot recommend this plumber enough. Truly the best!

I needed to replace a drop in sink, faucet and garbage disposal. After talking to several plumbers, I went with Nathan because (1) his quote was between the lowest and the highest bid, (2) he asked detailed questions regarding the job (3) he changed his pricing to include materials (4) he offered a one year warranty on his work and (5) he was available the same day we spoke (it was a Saturday in case you're curious). He was tentatively scheduled to come at 3:30 PM but he called around 3:15 PM to let me know that he was going to be 45 minutes late because he was coming from another project. No biggie. When he arrived, it was nice of him to ask if I wanted him to wear the protective booties over his shoes. Nathan kept me informed of everything he was doing during the course of the install. He even tried to reuse one of my fittings because he said it was better quality but in the end, he had to run to Home Depot to buy another kind (which, true to his word, he didn't charge me for it). He tested for leaks twice, he made sure the garbage disposal worked and he even figured out a way to hang the weight for my faucet so it wouldn't bump into anything when I pulled on the retractable head. Since I was planning on doing a kitchen remodel in another year or so, I took the opportunity to ask him about pricing on replumbing some stuff so I could get a sense of what would be feasible from a budgeting standpoint. Nathan was very patient answering my questions and he even provided some trade secrets (i.e. name brand replacement part warranties, etc. ). Anyway, the job took longer than anticipated but he was very professional and courteous. He provided a detailed invoice, took out the trash and he even offered to sweep around the sink area before he left. One last note, Nathan is good at returning your calls and responding to your texts. I left him a message 2 days after the install perplexed as to why my garbage disposal isn't working. He called me back immediately and we discussed what I did to troubleshoot the issue. He said I did all the checks he would've done so the issue isn't related to installation; maybe it's a bad motor. I told him I would call him back if I needed him to install a new garbage disposal. Thank goodness I performed all of the checks again before buying a new one because I got it to work. Nathan would be the first to admit that he's not the cheapest plumber (nor the most expensive based on the quotes that I received) but he takes pride in his work and that is evident by his warranty. I would consider him for other plumbing projects and you should too.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

    • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
    • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
    • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
