We hired Chris and his team to deep clean our carpets and clean the house before moving in. The team did an excellent job on the carpets. The house was fully carpeted with many stains all over and the team cleaned the carpet very well and removed all stains. They did an excellent job cleaning the carpet on the stairs as well. The house cleaning was also good and they cleaned all appliances inside out. Chris was very polite and communicative from the beginning and promptly replied to all forms of communication. He responded on a very short notice and worked over the weekend. He listened attentively and kept all our requests. When we discussed other potential improvements that we may need to make, he inspected them and provided helpful and frank suggestions. His services are competitively priced. Overall I would definitely recommend hiring C B Universal Services.

Everything I would ever want in a moving company these guys delivered: punctual, fast, careful, reasonable price, responsive. I have zero complaints, my move went as smoothly as I could have ever imagined.

Used Greenlight movers for a recent office move in the local area. I was impressed with the responsiveness at all points during the process, and the manner in which they took extra steps to cover and protect my furniture and equipment. I will be using them next time I need to do any kind of moving.

I called last minute (on a Sunday morning) to get help unpacking a 24' moving truck, a trailer and a 6x12 uhaul trailer. Not only did they arrive in 30 minutes, they had everything unloaded in about 3 hours. They were first class, professional, friendly, fast, cautious with all the furniture and NEVER stopped working. I've never had better help in my life. They definitely went the extra mile when it came to their job.

I had a laptop crash.. Mr Brooks had the knowledge to understand what had happened and corrected the problem. He then stated that he could upgrade the laptop to basically make it a new and did. More ram, more storage and new programs for less than half the cost of new. He'll be upgrading my business servers next.. Thank You Mr Brooks. Be Blessed. RS

I like that Brian does his own work...moving can be very overwhelming, with Brian I honestly felt at ease when he was performing my move from Austin TX to Chicago IL. He delivered packing materials before the move date. He was on time for the loading and delivery of my items, and he didn't break anything (including a indoor plant I have had for 14 years). Unbelievable service, I have had horrible moves before, so I would know. I recommend this moving service to anyone who needs a great performance from their mover.

ASAP Movers were a terrific experience! From the moment I spoke with Mr. Anderson, the owner, to the execution of the project, all went without a glitch. Mr. Anderson and his crew were professional, on-time and conscientious. I cannot express how hard working they were as well. They moved our home's content with great care. My husband and I are more than grateful to him and his crew.

I had an upright piano moved from my house to an apartment. Transit solutions was very friendly and professional and took care of the job very quickly and efficiently. They took great care to make sure there was no damage to the piano or to the wooden floors of my house. It was clear they were quite experienced in how to move pianos carefully. I will definitely consider using them again when I move from my apartment.

Very professional movers. They were responsive and made sure all the confirmations were performed. My only issue was that they didn't know that the back of the pod needed to be tied off well so that the stuff wouldn't shift during transportation and make the door impossible to open. They tied stuff off but not tightly and I had loads of trouble opening the pod door.

Penny and Michelle came to my house yesterday, very short notice packed my entire home quickly and efficiently. They made it very easy even though I didn't want a lot of the stuff I had so it made their job harder, not one complaint from them. I have a very large 3 bedroom plus lawn equipment and furniture. They packed everything they could. Then they called the movers 30 min before they would be done and they got there right as they were finishing. Amazing! The movers introduced themselves and did a walk threw of the home, at that time they strafed padding, shrink wrapping the items. Another guy was disassembling my beds and other items. I had a large piano which cost me extra but I didn't mind because I wanted to keep it. $150.00 to move the piano was much cheaper than anyone else. Once they made sure everything was disassembled and padded they loaded my items. Went outside got everything that needed to be loaded and loaded it up. I filled a 32ft truck to the max! They were worried they may have to come back for more but I didn't mind the extra time. They multi task well. I'm not one to just watch and be quiet I talked to them laughed with them and just had a great time all around from the packers to the movers it was awesome. We got to the new home and they set the whole thing up! Furniture where I wanted it reassembled it placed all my boxes where I wanted them neatly! My move took 12 hrs I feel so bad for them but I had a lot of stuff and I was picky. I wanted furniture in one spot then once it was setup I wanted to change it around. They didn't mind. I bought them dinner because I was so happy with it and tipped them all also. There prices are a little higher and I see why, if you want it done and done right call them. So after the move I asked if the cleaners could come it was a little late but they did! Cleaned my whole house base boards, fans, cabinets, appliances the whole none yards!! I tipped them too. I have used so many moving companies and this company has won my vote! I will tell everyone. By the time everything was done it was 11 pm but they never complained not once. Thank you!!!

These girls are worth more than their weight in GOLD! moved my mother and i out of both of our apartments into a house that we both live in now. All of our stuff got moved to our new house and put away in an extremely timely manner. They went back to my apartment and my mother's and cleaned them from roof to floor in every room and repaired anything in the apartments that was from us from normal wear and tear. Needless to say we got our deposit back on both apartments and could not be more happy with their services! Highly recommended and plan on hiring them again for future work and cleanings done that we need.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
