They did a great job installing a shower valve with a new hot cold faucet. It had to be done from a wall and the wall had to be patched up. We will use them again.

Franks guys did a nice porcelain tile floor in one of our bedrooms. The two guys who came out to our home to do it very friendly and hard working, barely took a break. Finished product was excellent and we are so happy with it. I'm the type of guy that likes to watch work being done, which i did, and they didn't mind at all, some contractors do not like onlookers, but they didn't mind me observing at all.

***5 Star Service*** I needed sheet rock repair due to wall cuts for additional wiring I ran in my home. Armel and his team are wonderful to work with! They arrived sharp on time and promptly got to work, explaining the entire process as they went along. Within a few hours my holes were gone! Textured and painted perfectly beyond anything I could have done myself. Should I get another urge to do anymore in-wall work, I'll call on AP Drywall Repair & Paint to complete the finishing!

JR and his partner were great. I hired them to install some clothing racks in my second bedroom (to turn it into a closet) and hang my jewelry rack on the wall. They did both quickly and efficiently, troubleshooting for a couple of bumps along the way. They even took a look at a problem I had with my back gate and fixed it - for a totally reasonable rate. Great experience - will definitely use them again when I need more work done to my place.

Mr. Macon performed an outstanding job on the interior painting of my house in Plano. Macon Painting was On-Time and On-Quote for the job. I thought I had the week off to hang out and watch, turned out there was no need too. Mr. Macon proved to me and my family he was an honest person AND contractor. I had to leave for work and left Mr. Macon and his crew there to work the painting and never had an issue with theft or not showing up as I've had with other contractors unfortunately. I would recommend this Painting company to anyone who is in need of a great paint job with no headaches! Please contact me if you have any questions about this Company. Would be happy to answer them. Paola did an excellent job for me! I had him do some drywall repair and not only was he able to come out quickly to do the work, he did a really nice, clean job. I'm very picky with contractors and I was extremely impressed. Everything we talked about and he quoted during our initial meeting to determine the scope of work was done well. I will absolutely hire him again and will refer him to anyone I know that needs work done. Very dependable and friendly and responsible.

I'm still waiting on this professional to finish the job. He had a personal matter come up taking him away from Dallas but has been unable to find someone else to finish the job for him. Half of the job has already been paid for but it's been over 2 weeks without any progress. Will change my review to 4 stars if the project is done in the next two days - otherwise I would not recommend hiring this contractor.

Carlos was awesome. We wanted a wood panel accent wall built in the study. High quality work at a reasonable price. Not only was the work excellent, but Carlos was very courteous, respectful, and professional. He kept in contact with me, and let me know the status of the work being performed to prep the wood (with pictures), and let me know when he was on his way for the install the next day. As some of you may have experienced with some contractors, they aren't always the best communicators. Not a problem with Carlos. We are going to be having more work done to the house soon, and will be hiring Carlos to do it. He takes pride in his work, and sadly, that's becoming harder and harder to find these days.

Cesar was absolutely fantastic. On the initial call he seem very knowledgeable and confident about his ideas and steps to remedy a leaking refrigerator cap in the wall behind the refrigerator. When he got there, he saw it was going to take more work due to whoever installed it originally. He not only was able to fix it quickly, he also fixed it in a way that it would be easier/better for future home owner and plumbers. This led to a request to do other projects around the house while he was there and he did every one with good proficiency, and quality skill work. He was also very pleasant to work with. I will certainly ask Cesar for his help and expertise on future projects.

Angel and his men worked on turning a load bearing wall into a kitchen island. We are very pleased with the end result. We chose Angel as our contractor because he was very knowledgeable about his work, professional, courteous and on time with his estimate. Once they started work, I appreciated the fact that they were very punctual and did not waste time at all. Their attention to detail and commitment to the job made the project go by very smooth. I also appreciate his genuine effort at working within our budget.

I highly recommend New Direction Structure Care for any and all of your home projects! I contacted Denton regarding a new tub and tile in the hall bath, and after meeting him the very next morning, he had agreed to take care of our fencing and concrete projects, too. I was thrilled to find someone willing to help with everything inside and out! If you are looking for a contractor who is quick to respond, does what he says he'll do, doesn't cut corners, arrives when he says he will, is up front with any variances from the original plan prior to making changes, and stands behind his work, then look no further! These guys are great to work with, and I plan on calling on them for all our repair and remodeling jobs. Thank you, Denton and Juan! You're the best!

Wow!!! This is an amazing artist when it comes to repairing walls. We have textured walls and due to having foundation repaired, we had lots of cracks. If you walked through my home today you wouldn't notice any issues. We will be using Nunez again! I highly recommend Nunez if you have had foundation problems as many Texans do.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
