Cody pressured washed our entire 2 story house, our driveway, walkways, patio, and pool deck area, and our detached garage. He did a great job at a very reasonable price.

Sheet rock work in our garage was amazing as was his concrete work between our barn and house. His tile work around our fireplace and the back splash in our kitchen was excellent as well. We also used him for framing and finishing a living area above our garage. This include installing laminate flooring, insulation and window units. He also completed a porch project outside our utility room. Our last project was to replace all the windows and doors in a mother-in-law cottage. His quoted price was accurate as was his estimate on completing each project. We used him multiple times during the course of a year and we wwre always pleased with the results

Jose did a great job from start to finish! I was pleased to know that his fees included materials and that he was honest in his price quote. He repaired my wood deck and fence, after wear/tear and water damages. He was also able to do some minor welding on my privacy gate. I would recommend him again in the future.

Our experience could not have been any better! From the initial meeting we knew Lightning was the right fit for us and we had already met with several Contractors prior and had more scheduled to meet that we actually canceled right after our meeting to get started with Lightning right away. Billy was our Project Man and before we even hired them he gave us a 3D color design that was exactly what we imagined. He even said to keep it if we went with another contractor so that they could do it exactly how we wanted it! He was the only one who provided us with a detailed design, schedule, and proposal breakdown and he did so without charging us a penny! I was sceptical initially as the other contractors were pushy, the other quotes were vague, hard to understand, and they were reluctant to explain which is why meeting with Lightning and seeing the 3D Rendering which they explained in detail to us was such a relief. I never imagined the finish product would be even better than the 3D rendering either, but when he knocked on my door to ask me to take a look on the final day, I felt like I was seeing my husband dream and my dream together for the first time even though I had been there the whole time! We started out just getting a new composite patio even though they gave us a proposal for everything, but we ended up using them for our entire outdoor space after the patio turned out perfect and better than the picture. We did a full outdoor kitchen with a brick pizza oven, grill, sink, and refrigerator, a huge travertine patio with a covered pergola and mosquito screen, several ceiling fans and power outlets, a fire pit with built in seating, a water feature with a waterfall and coy pond, and in-ground spa and could not be more pleased with everything. My husband is even wanting to get them to come back to do our indoor kitchen counters in the same concrete after seeing Billy's custom job with the outdoor countertop and bartop and we have very nice marble in there already Ha! They even mounted and installed my husband's misting system and televisions at no charge and told me "they couldn't deliver an unfinished product to us that we could not use and relax with right away." I was speechless to say the least. The only thing we are unhappy about is not having more work for that young man and his team as my husband and I haven't had such an exciting experience at home in years. If you are considering any outdoor improvements or projects you need to email me as this review does not do Lightning and our experience with them justice at all. It is very apparent that they do this because they love it as they treated our dream as if it was their own! My email is mkmizer1957@gmail.com. If you are hiring Lightning then be sure to ask for Billy as he really is an incredibly talented young man and took such good care of us, our property, and made our dream a reality! Thank you Lightning and Thank you Billy for such a wonderful job well done! Sincerely, Mr. & Mrs. James Edward & Mary Katherine Mizer MKMizer1957@gmail.com

11/10/16 Just wanted to say that I greatly appreciate Danny and his honesty I showed him a check for the amount the insurance had given me to fix my roof and he stayed within my budget . Danny and his team were prompt, professional and extremely courteous throughout the entire job. They worked diligently and quickly and finished my roof in one day. They took extra precautions to ensure all the debris was disposed of properly . If you are looking for a professional and honesty for experienced roofing contractor, D & W Remodeling is without doubt the best choice for the job.” Regards, Linda Davila

Lynn completely remade my back porch. He replaced and stained the floor, took the railings off, repainted and replaced them, repaired a leak in the metal roof, enclosed the ceiling rafters with Hardi Plank, and hung two ceiling fans (which involved electrical connections). Weather didn't cooperate, so it took a little longer than anticipated, but was still done well in advance of when I needed it. He even stained my wooden picnic table when he did the floor. It looks beautiful. I have gotten so many compliments.

Remove a wood deck and piers and install a concrete paver patio. Install a 45' long 18" high retainer wall for improved landscape and better utilize soil removed in preparation for the new deck. Supplied additional top soil to fully dress out the yard around the deck. The final paver deck was cleaned and sealed to improve a long life.

I needed my old leaking patio cover removed and a new one built to prevent water from flowing off the house into the back door area. Ero's Landscaping did a great job in removing the old structure quickly. After some weather and communication delays, the new structure was built in several days and does a great job in covering my back porch area and diverting rainwater away from the house. And especially it does not leak!! Working with Ero's Landscaping was friendly and easy. They built what I requested and left it open for me to add more at a later date if I want it. I only gave them a 4 star due to the weather delays, which really was out of their hands. Overall they did a very good job. I'd recommend them to others and plan to use them again myself in the future.

I just purchased an old Victorian built in 1900 and as can be imagined needs a lot of remodeling and replacing of deteriorated wood. I could not be more pleased with what JWH Texas Builders has done for me and my goals to invest in a home that has integrity in it's structure and charm to bring forward. My experience with Wade and Jeff was beyond a typical remodeler's efforts to get the job done and get paid. I have the utmost respect for the skills and design talent that these two brought to my project. Water-damaged beams were replaced around the entire house. The house was perfectly level when that portion was completed, allowing then for the total replacement of the very large porch with reclaimed planks (which they acquired from a collector and traveled many miles round-trip) in order for it to look like the original and to fit perfectly, again retaining integrity of materials. Hardiplank was used to replace much of the exterior damage due to many years of neglect, and it is a beautiful and practical compromise. My home required not only the front porch to be repaired, including soffit above, but a need for three other porches. We choose to do a large deck in the back and small porches for easy access as well. I look forward to having JWH return to remodel my kitchen, taking full advantage of their years of design and cabinet-making experience that is a hallmark of their successful trade. Most sincerely, Deborah D.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
