My 6 year old lab mix went in for a 3 week training boot camp. I just brought her home and the results are great! I walked past distractions, dogs and yelling toddlers with complete focus on me and my commands from her. She really loved her time there, and you can tell the people treat each dog like family. She will definitely be back for doggie day care and boarding if we go on overnight trips in the future. I really trust these guys to love her like I do.

Every experience I've had with Wags has been fantastic! The sitters write short summaries of what they did during their visit with your pet, how your pet was that day, etc. My kitties have always been well taken care of!

This was Socks 1st time being groomed & I was nervous especially w/ all the recent reports on pet food recall, abuse & more. Francoise showed up promptly at 3 to make sure he had plenty of time to finish Socks properly before I had to go back to work in the evening. In general, my & Socks experience was positive & if we end up moving back to Houston, I would definitely call on Glitz n Glam again! Thanks so much guys, I appreciate you!!

Daryl and Tammy work with you and your schedule. I have done both the boarding and boarding/training with both of our German Shepherd Dogs, Luna and Loki. He gives helpful suggestions with how to work with our dogs. Wish he was closer to us in Pearland but it is well worth the travel to their place. High recommend them to anyone

Urban Pet Sitting looked after my cat while I was out of town. I rarely travel out of concern that my cat will not receive enough attention and feel lonely. Urban Pet Sitting listened to my specific priorities. I couldn't be more satisfied. When I returned, my cat was as relaxed as could be and totally happy, not the way she has been when I returned from travels in the past. I will definitely use this service again. It is a huge relief having a reliable and caring pet sitter to take care of my baby as if she was their own. Thank you!!!!!!

Michael is the dog whisperer! I rescued Julie from the Houston SPCA on July 22nd after getting her home we quickly looked at each other like what have we gotten ourselves into? This pound puppy is cra cra! She was an owner surrender then adopted and quickly returned to the shelter because “she was to hyper” my husband and I made a promise to Julie that she was a good girl deep inside and we wouldn’t give up until we helped her find that good dog behavior we both just knew she had it in her! We took her to the vet and put her on m do for her sever anxiety issue that helped she calmed down but she was still clueless to any basic commands. I decided to look for a trainer to work with Julie for the behavior and anxiety issues we were seeing. I found Stealth K9 and contacted him asking about the cost for board and train. His quote was hundreds cheaper than the rest and his reviews were great he was very responsive I hired him right away! He came and picked Julie up the same day Within 4 hours of reaching out for help. When he arrived Julie did not like him at all because she didn’t know him, she actually bit him out of fear within minutes of him meeting her, that didn’t phase him at all! He was persistent with her and before he even left the house with Julie he had her healing next to him on the leash! He was there for less than 30 min. My husband was blown away. I get daily updates on Julie but after only 3 days of training he sent me a video of Julie’s progress I was in shock completely blown away. Julie loved him she was 100% fixated on him! She was already doing sit stay, heal sit and she was doing it with major noise distractions. He was using positive reinforcement by pet and praise no treats I love this style! I want my dog to perform her commands all the time not only for food. Michael and his team of trainers work day and night training the dogs. Julie has had multiple different trainers all day long so she is taught to take the commands from everyone not just 1 person she has shown no further aggression not even with new trainers she hasn’t worked with yet or doesn’t know. There aren’t enough words to express how great everyone has been with my Julie girl! I am so grateful that I found Michael and he is making it possible for me to fulfill our promise to Julie that we will never give up on her or take her back to the shelter we promised to get her the help she needs and we absolutely have.

My boys always receive excellent treatment when they see our favorite pet stylist, Erin. As always, she grooms one extremely friendly shih tzu whom received the Red Velvet Cake w/ deluxe services added. She also groomed a not so friendly Chihuahua who received the Red Velvet Cupcake w/deluxe services added as well. Erin is the best groomer and only groomer I'll allow my fur babies to go to.

Tricia was a blessing training our new dog. We found a stray tied to a lamp post in our neighborhood. We had to help the dog so we took him in. He had been abused and Tricia help us. When we first go Bear he was very frightened and peed in the house. After her instructions, which we carried out to a T, he became an excellent dog. It took some work but it was well worth it. I would use Tricia again for any of my animal training or behavior needs. She also does boarding which I will use in the future.

We have been using the service with Barking Life for a week and it was great. We have very demanding schedules and it was nice to have someone come check in on our pet, let her out, walk her, etc and play with her. The workers treat animals with kindness and respect. We are happy with Barking Life and find this to be great and a huge relief to our schedules. We love how they send pictures each day to show how our dog is doing.

Pat is incredible. We boarded our dog for 7 days. He left a 1 yr old very hyper wire hair fox terrier. He came a back very calm and loving pet. He is no longer attacking our older toy fox terrier. Amazing. Thank you so very much! Sending our anxious min pin next. Would highly recommend her without reservation to anyone with a dog or cat that has behavior difficulties!

I won't leave my pets with anyone else. Erin is very attentive to their emotional as well as physical needs. My 16 year old pup passed away last year and she was the only person to keep him. He loved staying with her and was always in good spirits when I returned and that was not the case when I had to kennel him.

Jennifer was great! Very responsive, punctual, the best priced walker I found in Houston, and flexible if our plans ever changed. Once I forgot to cancel with her when I had the day off work, she came by at her scheduled time to walk our dog and our dog was THRILLED to see her! I would have never seen them interact like that normally because I would have been at work. It was comforting to know how much our dog loved Jennifer. We only stopped using Jennifer because we moved from Houston to a new city for a new job, but I would recommend her to anybody!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does boarding a horse cost?

Finding the right horse boarding location is a big step in a horse owner’s life. This will be the place your horse will live and where you will visit multiple times per week or even daily. The cost of horse boarding will depend on the level of service you desire, the location of the stables, and the luxury level of the property. Here are some examples of average horse boarding costs:

  • Overnight stabling: $30 per horse per night.
  • Partial boarding (owner feeds and mucks): $220 per horse per month, with a three-month commitment.
    • Administration of oral medication: $10 per dose.
    • Bandaging: $20 per event, plus cost of materials.
    • Trailering to vet if owner is unable: $25, plus $25 per hour to wait with horse.
  • Basic full boarding: $325-$350 per month per horse. Includes twice daily hay and daily stall cleaning.
    • Horse training: $20 per session.
    • Pasture turn out: $20 per session.
    • Blanketing: $1 per day/$30 per month.
    • Vet or farrier hold: $20. This means haltering the horse and standing with it as it receives treatment or shoeing.

Where can I board my horse?

You can board your horse at any barn or stable that provides horse boarding services. To find horse boarding near you, read reviews of area locations and speak with equestrian friends to find one with a solid reputation. Ideally, the location will be within a reasonable drive from your home or office. This is especially important if you are paying for partial boarding services and are responsible for feeding your horse and cleaning its stall each day. You may choose your boarding barn or stables based on the services they provide. Some offer more extensive amenities — at an added price — that reduce the amount of work you need to do to keep your horse comfortable. Consider whether you want training, blanketing, exercise and other perks in addition to standard offerings like hay and stable mucking. Your stable may have temperament requirements and proof that your horse has the proper vaccinations required by your state. This protects both your horse and the other horses in the stable. Many states require that locations offering horse boarding services have stable licenses that are renewed each year. Always be sure to enter into a clearly written boarding contract that will cover your horse and belongings in case of accident, and remember our tips for smart hiring.

What is horse boarding?

Horse boarding is like rental housing for your horse. Horse boarding is helpful for people who don’t have the space or the resources to install and maintain a stable on their property. A horse can be housed in a barn with other horses and receive the care they need. Owners can visit their horse for riding, grooming, training, etc. Horse boarding services may vary based on the company and the price. Some horse boarders may offer short-term boarding of 24 hours to several nights for people passing through an area, while most offer boarding by the month for horses whose owners live in the area. There is partial- and full-service boarding, which indicates how much of the work of feeding the horse and cleaning the stall is the responsibility of the owner rather than the boarding barn. For an added fee, horse boarding can also include grooming services, riding and training, medication administration, and more.

To find the right boarding fit for you and your horse, make a list of your top priorities. These might include immediate access to riding trails, round-the-clock supervision, or a nearby or affiliated veterinarian. Always visit the site to learn exactly where your horse will be kept and whether the barn and grounds are in good condition. Read reviews, and always practice smart hiring. It’s also critical to sign the proper legal documents that protect both you and your horse, such as boarding agreements. Above all, make sure it seems like a place your horse will be comfortable between your visits.
