From the moment I asked for help with a wall mural, Freddy was wonderful. I think he responded with a quote within 1 minute! He was always on time, very professional and polite, and quite the artist. He took us through the whole process and didn't mind the numerous questions we had and design changes by my wife (wives...gees). In the end, we ended up with a beautiful beach mural on the side of our garage that is the focal point of our pool area in the backyard. If we ever decide to sell, I'm positive this mural will make our house stand out from the rest and add value. Thanks Freddy!!!

The service was really great. I've worked with plenty of web designers, marketers, and all the rest before. But VetsWeb gave me honest feedback, worked very quickly, and helped guide my project to help our company achieve our digital goals. I would recommend VetsWeb to anyone who is tired of the run-of-the-mill designers that take days to respond. Knowing I can call and talk to a real life human immediately, and get responses via email in minutes, not days is simply amazing!

Excellent talent and work quality along with outstanding commitment and honesty - what more can anyone want? But if you do, Zarina can provide it. I have seen a huge variety of her projects and I have interacted with her over her work and I can honestly and unequivocally say that Zarina is probably among the best there is in graphic design, artistic talent, imaginativeness -- and responsiveness to the customer.

Dawn did a Banner for me (Last Minute) for a memorial fund raiser I did last year. I sent her art I wanted incorporated and some ideas on text to use. The finished product was so much more than I could have ever hoped for. There was a point when everyone gathered around the Banner instead of my friends picture because it was so perfectly in tune with him and the reason we were all there. Dawn is an AMAZING artist with an eye for even the smallest detail, the little things that take a picture and bring it to life with meaning and almost a soul. She has a heart of Gold, is honest to a tee and will go far and beyond to make you happy with her work. Her work was fast but it didn't show that. I know I am raving about a simple banner but to us it was so much more and she understood that! Dawn will be my forever goto with anything print or art related... She should be yours too!!!

Have used this artist/designer for about 30 years. His fledgeling work on my graduation invitations was excellent and his work has only grown finer over the years. I've used him for portrait work as well as for graphic design. His most recent work for me include an impressive album cover/booklet and a new logo.

Morgan Bomar of Bomar Design served as Houston Ballet’s graphic designer for 21 years, 14 of which were during my time as director of marketing, producing beautiful, award-winning designs and helping to grow the company’s brand and increase ticket sales revenues. With the arrival of a new artistic director in 2003, Morgan played a leadership role in helping to re-brand the company, moving from a conservative, classical image to a more youthful, edgy, sensual look that added new verve to our marketing efforts. He managed to do this while working under the tight budgetary constraints of a non profit organization with limited resources. Some of the honors and achievements that Houston Ballet attained in which Morgan played an integral role include: -Being named Marketer of the Year in Performing Arts from the American Marketing Association's Houston chapter in 2012, 2013 and 2014. -Receiving the Crystal Award for marketing excellence in the category of "Product or Service Brochure" in 2012 and 2014 from AMA Houston. -Receiving the Sustained Marketing Excellence Award in 2014 from the American Marketing Association's Houston chapter. -Grew ticket sales revenues by 92% over a decadeless

Suzanne is a creative and talented freelance illustrator. We were brought together through a web browser search but the relationship has grown to a collaborative partnership at its finest. While it is one thing to be an excellent artist, it is another to understand and interpret the voice of the client (author)—and Suzanne has done both for my book project. From the very first written description I sent to Suzanne, she “heard my innermost humorous voice!” She was successful in translating my brief description on the first iteration. Suzanne has sense created and delivered 24 high-quality and hilarious illustrations, which have exceeded my expectations. During the creative process she quickly made minor edits and continuously collaborated with me until each illustrations was to my satisfaction. Suzanne even provided creative suggestions to strength the subtleness of several of my illustrations. The work that Suzanne has done for me is noteworthy and I am proud to have had the opportunity to work with professional of her caliber, skills, and talent. I would recommended Suzanne for any future projects without hesitation and plan to continue our working relationship well into the future. Dimple helped me with all of my website design needs and is currently working on my SEO. She was able to design beautiful mobile responsive websites that look great on every device and rank high on the search engines. I also hired Dimple to post SEO optimized blogs and it has only been a few weeks and I am already ranking on page 1 and 2 of Google. In fact, I am ranking multiple times for the same keyword and once more time goes by, I hope to dominate Google for my industry. Dimple also helped me with my video marketing strategy and got my videos to rank high on Google. I highly recommend her if you are a law firm or small to mid-size business owner who wants to increase your online exposure and generate more leads.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

  • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
  • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
  • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

What makes a good logo design?

A good logo is an easily identifiable, memorable image that represents your brand. A good logo design aligns with your business model and expresses your company’s core values. A good logo design is simple, appealing, and easy for customers and viewers to quickly process. Some of the key components of a great logo are type, color palette and design. The scale, font and arrangement of the text you select will all make a difference in the feel and representation of your brand. A graphic designer will help you home in on the colors that best represent your identity and help you keep the color palette simple. The design of your logo includes the shapes you select and the way the color and type are arranged together. Investing in the services of a professional to create your logo design is likely a smart investment for any size business. Nationally, the average price range for a logo designer ranges from $170 to $250.

What do you look for in a web design company?

The web design company you choose must be able to interpret your company’s mission and identity and turn it into an appealing website that connects with potential customers. They must help you reach your target audience and meet your business goals. A web design agency should have on staff both talented web designers, with fresh ideas and extensive technical and creative skills, and a marketing team that knows how to drive traffic to your site, encourage visitor engagement, and convert visitors into customers. Web designers should be able to build in search optimization and integrate your site with a content management system and e-commerce tools. Look, too, for a website design company that understands responsive design and can optimize your website for mobile devices and desktop browsers. The right web design company understand current design and website trends, has experience building sites in a variety of industries (not just yours), and has an expansive portfolio of live websites. Finally, don’t simply hire the cheapest bidder — in web design, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
