Juan was amazing to work with. He took the time to find exactly what I wanted, was very affordable, did a great job installing the granite, protected the floors in the house so he wouldn't damage anything, and most of all is trustworthy. I had another contractor bail on some other jobs at the house and Juan graciously offered to complete the drywall/painting work. He made it look really good! Juan communicates very well, shows up when he says he will, and completes the job with integrity. I will be using him in the future and highly recommend him. Trustworthy contractors are rare to find these days.

We had a large project that required installing and finishing new drywall as well patching, repair, and retexturing some of the existing drywall. Isaac and his crew did a great job in a timely manner and at a fair price. They also repaired some framing issues. Isaac stays on top of the job and makes sure it is done right and in a professional manner. We will definitely be hiring Decid's Painting and More for our next renovation project. They have abundant skills in the renovation process.

Phil immediately responded to my post and came the very next day. He did some drywall patching and repair around one of our a/c vents on the ceiling. He was in and out in less than an hour. Will be calling him again to do a couple of the other vents after our baby is born. Thanks!

Anytime you invite someone into your home to do work your always nervous because you just don't know how it will turn out. I contracted Antonio Espinoza to sheetrock two differnt locations in my house. He showed up ontime, ready to work, you can't ask for more than that. Hurricane Harvey created a leak in my roof that dripped into my movie room. Had the roof repaired then I called him out to do the sheetrock work. The area was over 5ft long as you can see by the green tape. When they started they put down plastic to protect everything in the room, from dust and debris, and insulation. He sheetrocked it taped/floated/textured and then cleaned up. The room looks like nothing ever happened. I tend to have pretty high expectations and they exceeded all of them. Prior to Harvey I had a whole home water filtration system put in but the plummber that did the work is not sheetrock guy. I had Antonio fix this as well. He did such a good job you couldn't even tell I added the system to the house. I absolutely love the work they do, and how they did it. As far as price goes FAIR, FAIR, FAIR I feel that the price was spot on for the work that was done. They respected my home which I loved, not marching around like they own the place. The workmanship was top notch, I found my sheetrock man. I won't use any other company PERIOD!!! The only thing I can say is if you want it done right quit reading reviews this is who you call.

This was my first experience with Thumbtack and it was excellent! I needed the drywall that was behind my old kitchen backsplash removed and replaced before the new tile and granite goes in. Stan answered me immediately, gave me a very reasonable quote and said he would be out the next morning. His guy was there early 7:50am! Stan was in a minor car accident and got delayed but still showed up. I asked him about other what other things he could do for me because I was so impressed I would like to hire again in the future.

Dave has done several jobs in and around our house since out garage was flooded in the Memorial Day flood in Houston. He first build a very sturdy and functional loft above our double-car garage door with removable ladder. He also replaced the damaged wallboard and trim, door locks, and even trimmed out a new garbage drawer in our kitchen that keeps beloved Bailey at bay with our trash! Recently, Dave cut-out our marble tiles in our jacuzzi tub in master bath and replaced damaged faucet mounts and leak at the in-take valve. Replaced the tiles before my wife even knew we there! Overall Dave is not only extremely versatile but his rates are very fair and he always shows up when says - Never any excuses and always a great results. Dave Broeckelmann

I had a number of things that needed to be fixed at my rental house. Henry was very responsive and thorough. Repaired some fence pickets, did some painting and drywall repair, changed a light fixture, repaired a bannister, and repaired a shower door.

I used Mike and his crew to repair some cracks in the drywall/ceiling, repair the base of a wood door frame that had rotted, secure some loose chimney flashing, and hang a new chandelier on a very tall ceiling. I was very happy with the results, particularly the drywall - little to no sign that the ceilings have been repaired now. Communication was somewhat spotty at times while Mike was on other jobs, was a bit of confusion here and there, but overall the job was done within the timeframe needed.

Where shall I begin? After Hurricane Harvey, my house was a mess. I saw an add for Duct replace/repair in the newspaper. I have an old home and my ducts are original. I called and scheduled an appointment. I had a gentleman come out to my house. He was very knowledgeable and nice. He climbed up into my attic to check out the damage. He recommended that I replace my entire duct system and that I should add insulation as well. He asked me to come up into the attic with him to better show me and explain the situation. I was shocked at all the damages. I immediately called my husband at work. And the technician was super nice and explained to him what needed to be done. He left me an estimate. I didnt feel any pressure, or sales tactic. When my husband got home I told him to get up in the attic and see for himself the damages. We discussed it, and the following day we called back Quality Air Of America to do the job. We were transferred to the install dept and scheduled right away. The installers showed up, and removed the old ducts and insulation. Once that stuff was out we had a better understanding of all the bacteria that we were breathing. They installed the new ducts and sprayed new insulation after. They were very clean and proffesional. My indoor air quality and efficiency is so much better after Quality Air took care of it. Thank you Quality Air of America You guys are the best!!! I am so happy I found you guys. God bless. Maria T

These guys did an amazing job. I got way more insulation than what they originally told me that they would put. My electric bill is nothing in comparison to what it was before!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
