Please save yourself some headache and use someone else. Al's guys are good but dealing with Al is painful. Some of the pros and cons for our kitchen remode:Pros:End result is good, just few punch out items are leftCons:-work area wasn't blocked off the first day which meant dust went everywhere including furniture from tile being taken up (I expected some just not that much)-Al asks for money constantly after the project starts and tells you his issues for why he needs it (can't make truck payment, payroll, etc.)-forgets what he agrees to, even when it's in writing and then uses it as he's doing you a favor for doing something he previously agreed to-he ran over our dog with his truck, didn't apologize and didn't offer to pay for the vet bills (we didn't ask)-our previous faucet was thrown out even though it was only about a year old and while we weren't reusing it, we wanted it.-our ladder disappeared on clean up day-al owes us about $250 because my husband was trying to help and picked up supplies for him and I just found the receipt after paying Al.-job took 8 weeks instead of promised 4-5 weeks-al didn't include a microwave in the design plan, we should have caught it too but since he's the professional I expected him to point it out.-we where charged overages on spending but where never given credits for coming in under budgetBottom line: we are out about $250, a ladder and will have to spend about $500 to finish out the job...could be worse but could be a lot better too.

Your assessment of the quality of our people and our work is correct, we take pride in delivering the best value possible. I must however take exception to your other comments about me personally. Let me address each of your objections: • Most of the cabinets had been removed prior to our arrival on the job site by the water extraction contractor. As a result, there was no need for draping for dust protection on the first day and this was agreed to by you. As you know, even with the dust protection that we always put up, there is unavoidable dust produced in a major renovation like this one. • As to your assertion that I forget what we have agreed to, our contract documents were very clear and we submitted drawings for your approval prior to the start of any work. You made several adjustments and we agreed upon the final submission (again please remember that all cabinets on the side of the house where oven, microwave and cook top are located and been removed by the other contractor). • The contract payments were set up on a weekly basis, and were agreed to prior to the start of work. We are not in the business financing your job. • Our contract also states that the homeowner is responsible for identifying any items that you would like us to salvage; and upon your request we did salvage granite countertops and other items. The only question is about your old sink faucet, for which we settled on $100 being removed from our final payment as compensation (even though this was not our fault). • As to your pet, not only did I apologize for hitting her (did not “run over” her), but at the moment it happened I called your husband and asked him if I could take her to the vet, his response was that since she was able to walk he would let me know. Until now I’ve heard nothing more. • The question of the additional $250 Will spent for materials was not mentioned to me until after we received final payment based on the amount of money that you and your husband told me that you would pay (not the amount owed us). I don’t understand the problem, because no effort has been made to resolve it with us. • Our cleanup crew did accidentally removed one of your ladders I have offered to drop it by or to meet your husband in order to get it back to you. This was refused. • As you know, there were a number of changes made after the contract and drawings were accepted by you, including building furr downs, building a cabinet to receive your TV and installing the mount. We also rebuilt a cabinet, at your request, for the microwave. Only one of these items was compensated for and they all added significantly to the amount of time required to complete the work.

Al Heathcock has been an absolute pleasure to work with. We employed Century Builders for an extensive whole-house interior remodel, which involved removing some walls and reconfiguring the layout of the bathrooms and kitchen, in addition to the usual new cabinets, countertops, and fixtures. In fact, both bathrooms and the kitchen were stripped down to the studs. We even had him repair some extensive plumbing issues that required digging up concrete in both bathrooms. They also added a skylight, canned lights throughout the house, resurfaced our fireplace, replaced all the flooring with hardwood and tile, added a linen closet, crown molding, replaced doors, blew in insulation, repaired texture on walls, and other items too lengthy to list here.Because of the scope of the project and the fact that we had to move our family and animals out during the remodel, we were pretty nervous about hiring an unknown contractor just based on reviews. We interviewed several other contractors and even though they also had good reviews, we didnt feel completely at ease with them. Ultimately, after meeting with Al a second time, we really felt that he exhibited professionalism, honesty, and a sincere desire to listen to us, so we decided to turn the full project over to him. We are certainly glad we followed this impression. The house is beautiful, and we were continually impressed with Als workmanship and willingness to point out to us items he had caught that needed attention. Overall, we stuck fairly closely to the allowances in our bid, but we did end up adding a few additional items, which raised the cost somewhat. There were times when digging up the concrete or removing a wall would reveal more problems to be fixed. We felt that we were charged fairly for these additional costs, and Al was very good at anticipating extra cost that might appear and warning us beforehand if possible.Remodeling is by nature a stressful process, but our contractor, thankfully, was a solution to our stress and not the cause. Even though we tried to visit the house daily, it was good to be able to trust that the work would be done well, and that if any problems were noticed, that Al would make sure they were taken care of quickly. My husband works in the construction industry and has considerable experience with many aspects of construction, and he came to trust and respect Al and his workers. We both highly recommend Century Builders and we will continue to do so when friends or family need a contractor.

I have had the pleasure to work with Al Hitchcock of Century Builders on a master bath remodel. The job entailed complete demolish of all old bathroom materials plus we had a restructure and reconfiguration with a shower taken out, with plumbing being reworked for a toilet to be moved, walls taken down to add additional length to the vanity, a wall being rebuilt in a different position from original with a door and, finally, a pocket door replacing the existing door. It was a pleasure to work with Al, whose main concern was client satisfaction. Through the entire remodel job, it was a great comfort to work with Al who has years of remodeling experience, who is a person of integrity and who would complete the job in a manner where the customer is satisfied. It was also a pleasure to work with a contractor who treated his employees with dignity and respect. In these days of uncertainty with fly-by-night contractors, it is great to know you can depend on Al and his crew to complete the job. I love the finished bathroom.

I had the pleasure of working with Al through the planning, design and construction of our pool house project. From the first day to the last day, he exceeded our expectations. We had a clear vision and budget and Al collaborated with us to make our dream a reality. It is rare to find someone that has such excellent construction knowledge, creative and resourceful design skills, attention to big picture, as well as, the small details; expert schedule and trade coordination, budget and estimation accuracy as well as a true spirit of partnership. Al treats every project like it is the only project! From the day the project started, his communication and daily oversight made him stand apart from previous contractor experiences. Because of his attentive management the project moved from trade-to-trade smoothly. If any questions or issues arose, we addressed them together, always with an awareness to design goals, schedule and budget and his efficiency in handling the project unknowns ensured success. Not only did we gain a beautiful space for our family, I truly feel that we gained a friend. I look forward to working with Al again on future projects and I highly recommend that you select him for your next project! It is so difficult to find someone that you can trust to turn your dreams into reality...I have been working in and around the construction industry for 15 years and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to work with Al, the search is over!

I cant say enough good things about Century Builders. Al, Fabian, and the crews for Century Builders are the BEST! We had never had any kind of major home remodel done in the 40 years we have lived in our home. Needless to say, it was time! A search online led us to Century Builders! It was an exciting, pleasurable experience. Al is a perfectionist when it comes to his projects, and his foreman Fabian, was right there to make sure his requirements (and ours) were fulfilled. All of this happened during the pandemic shutdown, but they didnt miss a beat! I am thrilled with our new open kitchen, dining, and living room! But, my absolute favorite is my new art studio! It is no less than fabulous! It was such an easy, fun experience, we are almost ready to move on to improving the rest of the house. I would recommend Al and his Century Builders and his crews to anyone looking for someone who is hands on and will guide you every step of the way to end up with an amazingly beautiful remodel or addition!
