Mike was incredible; very nice, very reasonable and just what the Dr. ordered. I even gave him a big tip because I was so pleased with the whole job and experience; when is the last time you heard of something like that in the repair business. I will definitely keep him on file for future projects and referrals... Thanks Scott

We had a drywall repair job and some plumbing work that we had started but didn't know how to finish. Steve made the project much less overwhelming and even let me go to Home Depot with him and explained exactly what we were buying and how it worked. And he is coming back tomorrow to help me with our flooring! Can't recommend highly enough.

we hired Dan to work on plumbing repair after we removed an old sink cabinetry replaced with a new pedestal sink. He has done an excellent job by hiding the exposed pipes and drainage with new sheetrock and best of all he fixed a broken sewer flap the common issue for old house. We are very happy with his work and free from the sticking smell!

John and Mark were outstanding. They came on the limited info from the pictures I sent. They saw that it was a different problem than I was describing. They brainstormed to come up with a better plan and walked my husband through a plumbing process they couldn’t legally do. Gave my husband the morning to complete it, then returned the same day to complete the drywall repair. Project was bigger than expected, but still honored original quote. Professional throughout the entire process, took shoes off inside, and cleaned before leaving. Highly recommend!

Tim recently completed a large two home project for me. He and his crew definitely earned 100% of the 5 stars that I have listed for him. I don't always write long reviews, but I definitely wanted to take the time to write one for Sonshine Paint. Here's why and what you get with them: 1.) Professionalism and punctuality wrapped in a very engaging and joyful people. 2.) High quality work with high quality products in a highly detailed manner. 3.) High competency professionals who seek to understand your goals and can communicate options and suggestions clearly. 4.) Pricing is transparent and work timeline is accurate. 5.) The owner is on the job. 6.) No nonsense, no home repair hostage situation, no up-sell, no misquotes, no "I forgot", no "I didn't see". The quote did not change. When I added work, the quote for the added work was specifically noted and separated from the original quote. They were fair, moral, honest and transparent. I've experienced different painters in the past both as the home owner repairing life's wear and as new home buyer. Sonshine Paint stands apart from all the others in many instances. In the example of new homes or complete paint jobs, Sonshine Paint uses better long lasting products and a better application that exhibits a very tangible difference in quality. They also have a great attention to detail and sense of pride in their work so you will not find some ugly clump of texturing or a missed edge. Where the company really shined was one of the homes had some big drywall scuffs and cuts and I did not have the original paint to aid with a color match. Along with those challenges, the home had several rooms that required a color change from very dark to neutral. Sonshine executed the color change flawlessly and all of the areas that required retexturing were repaired in a manner exceeding expectation. Where Tim went way beyond expectations is in the color match. He could have easily given up, provided a close match and easily convinced me to paint more to make up for the missed match. Instead, Tim took several doors off, cut non-noticiable drywall pieces and made many trips to ensure a perfect match. His efforts saved several walls from being completely repainted thereby saving me money. With the fresh thick paint and the repairs the home looks better than when I bought it new. I also had the a lot of fencing stained at both homes. One fence was grayed with shards of stain left and looked horrible the other fence was faded even though the stain was 3 years old and covered with an additional coat of water seal. From staining in the past with normal water based stain, I figured that my fence was never going to look good again. Sonshine cleaned the fence thoroughly and used an oil based product to bring the life back into it. They used an expensive product, buy my fence looks perfect again and the finish should be very durable with the oil competent and there will be no need for a water seal. Can you find a cheaper quote on your paint work? You probably can, but I will stack all my chips on Tim that the quality and value will be greater with Sonshine Paint.

Luis is great at drywall repair and interior/exterior painting that we needed at our house. His price is very reasonable and I would use him in future and recommend him. The only reason I gave him 4 out of 5 stars is because his team forgot to throw away the damaged drywall in the garbage instead of leaving it in the backyard. I am picky. I expect people to do a good job and the clean up after. Luis did a really good job on drywall repair, replacing siding and painting both inside and out. I was initially worried as he did not use plastic wrap on my wood floor when he was painting. But, not a spec of paint on the floor. If I had been there when he started to paint, I would have forced him to put the plastic covering for my mental peace. I have multiple properties and I will definitely use Luis for all my wall repairs and painting.

Great value. He took time to repair my sheetrock right. He put plastic on the carpet, did a couple "extra value" things beyond the agreed-on scope, and was polite. You can trust this guy.

Great work in a tight timeline. Manny stayed on budget and his team did excellent work with various types of work - indoor/outdoor painting, flooring, drywall repair, etc. My only feedback is that he takes a while to communicate, sometimes up to a day later. Hire Manny!

We had a short window to repair drywall damage in our bathroom in order for our plumber to but our bathroom back together after finding/fixing a leak. R&T was able to fit our project into the schedule quickly. They were ontime for the work and completed the job in a bit over an hour, including texturing. The repair blends in naturally with the rest of the wall.

Luis and his mother who is his assistant on the job, were such a pleasure to have working in our home! We needed to have done some drywall work and change some ridiculously high placed bulbs on our chandeliers. Luis got the work done in a timely manner while his mother prepped the areas that would be worked on. Both of them made sure to clean up after themselves. They treated our place like it was their own and we really appreciated that. Overall, they were upbeat, positive, and a pleasure to chat with. If you need something done, call Luis. He is a go getter and his dedication shows!

Ended up having A&J work on a kitchen project instead of the original drywall project. They have been excellent. There have been some challenges to overcome, and Jorge has proven creative with a good eye for design and excellent quality work on the follow through. Excellent at communicating and being there when they say they will be there. I will continue to use them and recommend them to all my friends. If these guys are on your radar, use them while they’re still available.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
