Michael and his crew did a fantastic job! His quote was very competitive and his communication excellent - much better than all the other contractors I met with to bid the job. They were timely, professional and kept the site - our home - very tidy throughout the process. They cleared beds and planted groundcover and plants, trimmed trees and bushes; repaired, replaced and installed new masonry; replaced some of our old worn-out fencing and even installed lights on my house and big oak tree for Christmas. I couldn't be happier with the results! I will add more photos in the morning! For now, here is a night shot of our updated front yard.

Angel was timely and very efficient. He made a few well thought out suggestions and went the extra mile to do a proper installation of our lights. The end result is stunning.. We plan to hire him again for some future projects this summer. Really good guy...

We hired Jon to replace our wooden 9 year old crumbling fence that had partially blown down from a storm. We got lots of quotes from big fencing companies and no one could come close to the price that Jon offered us. Jon's quote was about $10 cheaper per linear foot than the other companies could offer! Jon and his crew did a beautiful job on the fence. They even had to deal with connecting the fence to a large tree and they did it seamlessly. I am so happy that we had Jon and his crew come out to do our fence. They were able to finish the project in just three days and I hardly knew they were even there. The best part is, that rather than just take the old wood to the dump, they offered it to a few couples who needed the wood repair their fences/make crafts which is super environmentally friendly! I will definitely hire them in the future to do other projects around our house.

This was a very difficult job. The man that worked with my contractor did not have a clue how to run electricity, but said he did. It was a nightmare. Audio Vidio Simplicity saved the day. They worked tirelessly trying fix all the screw ups the other man did. It was such a fire hazard, but they finally were able too nail down the problem and fixed it for me. I will definitely recommend them to everyone. Sincerely, Sylvia Coburn

Mario is AMAZING!! I hired him and his employees to tile my bathroom floor to ceiling. As is often the case with a remodel, when walls were exposed, the design had to change. Mario rolled with it and helped in every way he could. Whether it was ordering and picking up tile, unexpected electrical work, changes in design, or just to check in, Mario's communication is off the charts. I always knew what was going on, what was changing, and it was always so clear that my satisfaction was his top priority. When the job was finished to my satisfaction, there was one small section of textured wall that Mario wasn't happy with, so he stopped by (himself) before work to make sure it was right. This is a great company and they will be my first call the next time I need similar services.

I needed my 2 bedroom 2 bath mobile home completely remodeled. After getting quotes from multiple people it was looking like buying a new one would be cheaper. Then I spoke to Billy at True Touch. He came out and made my mobile home look nothing like a mobile home inside! Knocking out walls, move electrical and plumbing, floors, move and relocate shower and toilet and painting! I paid him per job as we moved along and there were times he even gave me money back because I over paid for some parts. Billy is very honest, very skilled, and made sure I was happy with the work. Even gave me a warranty. I recommend True Touch to everyone who wants great work from honest people!

Alex has been absolutely amazing. We had him do a bunch of work to our home before we moved in, anything he didn't have personal experience in, he had someone else that could do the work. He brought in a team of guys that came and ripped out 600sq ft of carpet and installed our beautiful new hardwood floors. We requested a new pendent light in the kitchen as well as some new recessed can lights, all of which are aligned perfectly and are exactly where requested. To top it all off, we had out two largest rooms painted, living room and kitchen, and they look phenomenal! The house is completely transformed, and he was able to get it done about 2 weekends. Now it's all move in ready. We'll definitely be having Alex back again for our future work (fencing, bathroom remodels, and running Cat6 network drops). He's a very personable individual, and is extremely meticulous when it comes to the detail work. I'm extremely satisfied with the work that was completed! -Steve

Chris helped me restore my 1965 vintage camper and did an INCREDIBLE job!! From the gutting, to the walls, to the electrical, plumbing, custom cabinets, the bed, closet, kitchen, custom butcher block countertops, there is nothing he can't do! I was so pleased with the finish product that so exceeded my expectations! So attention to detail and perhaps the thing that set him apart was his use space and managing my expectations. We had a few set backs on the build, but Chris was communicative and fair. The best part was how affordable and fair he was. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! 5 stars!

Kelly Cobb is a great handyman / painter / remodel person. I hired him for a small job and kept him on to basically remodel the house and another investment property. Some jobs he did were: removal of popcorn ceiling, re texturing walls and paint after electrical work cut holes in drywall, bathroom tile - floor and tub, installing bathroom vanity, landscaping, kitchen remodel, exterior & interior paint on outside house etc. I would definitely recommend Kelly as he is a hard worker and can complete just about anything. I attached some pictures of just the kitchen remodel. I described some crazy things I wanted done such as the live edge bar and his idea for the stainless steel back splash, which he had the contacts for the custom slab (he sanded it, sealed and treated slab) and steel work. He also has other contacts if needed. Trustworthy, nice, fair prices and conscientious! If I ever need additional work or do a flip I am excited I know a contractor. When the job got really big I did use his recommended helpers. He also got along with the neighbors and some subsequently hired him after my job. Thanks Kelly!

Walter has been our handyman for over 2 years and we've had nothing but professionalism and excellent service from him. Walter has helped us with multiple projects over the years including painting the interior and exterior of our home, basic electrical with hanging up and connecting patio lights, driveway motion-sensor lights, and doorbells, he has stained our decks and helped seal, cork and paint our windows and window ledges. Walter has also helped us with hanging up art, curtain rods, power-washing the exterior of our home and cleaning and fixing issues on our roof. And he has always been so courteous, patient and positive. His service always comes with a kind word and a smile. We have come to rely on him for so many jobs, both big and small and have recommended him to many of our friends and neighbors. And he always quoted us fair and reasonable rates, much lower than most other quotes we got from other businesses. He is trustworthy, reliable and great at what he does.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
