Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Most Contractors that do smaller jobs aren't particularly interested in the area of design. Design is very important because not all people communicate in the same way, and the goal should be communicated very clearly to all involved.... A picture is worth WAY more than 1000 words! Capitol Of Texas Contracting has a graphic artist on staff that can, at the Client's request, sketch your ideas out for you so that the finished product can be "seen" before we begin. That helps us to make sure we are all on the same page, and solidify any changes that need be made early in the game. In addition, our graphics personnel have been trained in architectural design, fine arts and industrial design, so that no matter the job, we can clearly communicate the end result from the planning stage.

Capitol of Texas (COTC) renovated our master bathroom so badly that it had to be torn down to the studs and redone again by new workers. It was a deathtrap, and 3 separate contractors all agreed the job was a hack-job. Here's the quick breakdown of the facts, not in order, but in importance. This was a year-long situation. We are awaiting a small-claims court date and will take all measures to get our $9,000 back. We aren't rich people. COTC (owner James Wade)'s biggest failings: – He didn't install a frame/stud where the glass shower doors would be connected. He allowed 200lb. glass doors to only go into sheetrock with nothing behind it. The glass doors could have fallen and killed us. After 3 months of use, the doors were already starting to move and put focused pressure on some of the shower curb tiles, causing others to pop up. – He didn't waterproof the shower correctly. He didn't put in a shower pan, he instead used hydroban, but not at the recommended thickness. It took one crack in the grout for water to penetrate and reach the shower curb stud, which began to blacken and swell. – He ruined $1400 worth of tile when he used the wrong sealant, even though we emailed, printed and discussed the manufacturer's recommended sealer to him. The sealer he wanted to use stained the tile and he wound up sanding the top layer down to fix it. – After the first issue of curb tiles popping up arose, he did the demolition, but then walked out on the job. He left us waiting for a month with no calls back when we finally decided to hire another contractor. – A proper shower drain wasn't installed. – He never reinstalled the toilet. – He took 4 months instead of the 1 month cited in the contract. He spent only half-days or no days at our house, and often with not proper notice of when he was coming or not coming. Beware of his website – I submitted a negative review, but the site only shows his glowing reviews, naturally.

Let me preface my review by saying that I am a Jersey Girl and have an East Coast mindset in business matters: "Give me the bottom line; get in, get it done, and get out." COTC was referred by my roofing contractor and I was skeptical at first because of another review I had seen on another website that seemed to be a little knit-picky, but after getting a professional reference, I thought, "Okay, I'll at least meet him". James Wade made the initial contact by phone and I explained my Jersey mindset, which he adapted to immediately. He is a refreshingly honest, personable and VERY professional man who genuinely cares about what his clients want. The work for which we contracted with him was supposed to be for replacing sheet rock that had been water-damaged--according to our insurance adjuster--but James educated me on what damaged sheet rock looks like and we ended up only needing sheet rock repair. He kept me involved in the decision making from matching color of existing paint to blending new painted walls with existing surfaces. He set the expectation by giving me a quote that was only off by $11 and meeting the timeline of the work. The day after work was completed, it was not even noticeable that any work had been done! Besides the quality finish, I was educated on insurance adjusting, the difference between drywall replacement vs. repair, and we talked a lot about Jesus and our faith walk...which was a GOLDEN BONUS for me! Of note, he had hired a 2016 high school grad on his way to college as his assistant for the summer who was quite an amazing, conscientious worker, himself (Kudos to James for the mentoring of our youth). The depth of his character has already convinced me to hire COTC next year when we are ready to do a full interior paint job. I highly recommend COTC if you're looking for godly character built into excellence of service. S. D. Cornelius, Spring Branch, TX

I've had a door hung, a bathroom remodel (extensive tile work) and a water heater replaced. All the work was excellent and I was completely satisfied. In addition I was presented with options and evaluation of materials to allow me to make the best decisions for my home and my wallet. I absolutely recomend their work.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

As the Primary for Capitol Of Texas Contracting, I take pride in the work that we do. Originally, I went to school for Architecture. I decided to start my own Graphics business and after a number of years, decided to fall back on the Architectural side of my training and do some remodeling. Later on the Insurance business, particularly the disaster/mitigation industry, attracted my attention. I got licensed to Adjust in several states and did work for both Private Insurance Carriers and Homeland Security as a Disaster Housing inspector for about 7 years. Creating Capitol Of Texas Contracting was the next logical step; it is the Consumer's Contractor. We have partners licensed in all types of trades. We are ready to take on any of your remodeling and repair needs be they large or small. We love to help our customers understand the inner workings of remodeling; after our remodel, should they find themselves in need of this type of service again in the future, they will be more educated about Contracting.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Capitol Of Texas Contracting most commonly does work that allows us to make a property more valuable; we specialize in Bathrooms. We have spent a good deal of time early on making sure that our clients' properties have had holes repaired in walls, fresh paint when needed, repairing hydraulic door closers, flooring repairs, remodeling bathrooms, etc. Later, we re-focused largely on residential Bathrooms and Kitchens. The residential market has seen a recent boom in the sale of homes with the recent influx of buyers from out of state. They call us to help them with making their new home fit their lifestyle, or meet their dreams. A fair percentage of our work came through partnering with Home Depot as a certified vendor through their Principle Contracting organization to remodel bathrooms for their customers. As of late, we've concentrated on building our comercial business as well as partnering with several insurance providers and their vendors. We will also pursue more work in the public sector with status as a Vendor for the state of Texas. We will continue our transition from a purely residential contractor to mainly a commercial remodeling provider.
