Corey did a fantastic job! I was on a time crunch. We have family coming in and our two big dogs destroyed our carpets. I tried to book our regular carpet cleaners but they couldn't fit us in until next week so I turned to Thumbtack. So glad I did! Corey was able to squeeze us in the same day, he did excellent work, he was very professional and his fees were extremely reasonable! The carpets look amazing! Especially the rug in the living room which was $10!! Plus everything was dry in an hour! I was amazed!! We will use him again and we will recommend him to everyone.

When my realtor saw the stain on my bedroom carpet, he stated that he didn't think it could be cleaned and should be replaced. After talking to my sister (her husband had had a chemical carpet cleaning franchise years ago) I googled carpet cleaners and gave the job to Carpet Zen. The stain disappeared and my realtor happened to be there and was very impressed and got several cards from Shayne for other clients. Needless to say I loved the results and would highly recommend Carpet Zen.

Jeremy's work is first class - he was a professional throughout, provided very clear instructions in a pre-appointment call to help us prep for the carpet and tile cleaning and then during the cleaning appointment he was helpful beyond our expectations (he ended up helping move a few items that really weren't his responsibility to move!). Jeremy's equipment was extremely powerful too and as a result he was able to remove stains that we never thought would be possible to get out of both the tile and the carpet. The overall process and work quality were excellent and very much appreciated.

Office Cleaner, Austin has been cleaning at Southpaws Playschool for several months now, and we couldn't be happier. Abigael is thorough and conscientious in her cleaning. She is detail oriented--she cleans things as part of our package that I hadn't even noticed needed cleaning! I love working with Abby on a personal level, as well. She is a very nice, easygoing person and runs her business with integrity. I am so glad that we hired Office Cleaner, Austin, and I would do so again if given the chance. My favorite thing is that all of her products are eco-friendly and will not harm our clients or their dogs.

I been using F.J. Trusted Cleaning Services for about one year now and I've been perfectly pleased with the cleanliness of my house with them. Rescheduling the service has been fine as long as I do it 24 hours before. Their cleaners have been always on time as well. I am not usually at home when they come, but from what I can see on the cameras they treat my dog nicely which is my main concern. They just work around him and they talk to him once in a while. They also just go about their work and let themselves in and out. The last time I've had service, the cleaners did a great job.

A few weeks ago I took a chance on recently started Tex-Mex Cleaning Services and I'm so glad I did! Karla came in and deep cleaned several parts including the master bath shower, all glass surround, and the oven and stove top. The shower is cleaner now than the day we installed it and the oven/stove are sparkling clean as well! I'm very impressed with how thorough Karla was, she didn't miss a thing we had agreed on. She even went above and beyond and cleaned the blinds in the two guest rooms even though she was only supposed to dust. That was a very nice touch because everyone knows that cleaning blinds are a pain! I also really like that she only uses natural cleaning products, no harsh chemicals. When I walked into my house smelled so clean and fresh. I can highly recommend this company for all your cleaning needs, big or small!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.
