Martha Singleton, president of NextBigStep, draws on her experiences as one of the country's most respected high school journalism educators. She advised yearbooks, news magazines, an online newspaper, and a daily television broadcast at a large inner city high school in San Antonio. Named Distinguished Adviser by the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund and the Wall Street Journal, she was awarded Top Ten Teachers in Texas by the University of Texas, and the Edith Fox King award from the University Interscholastic League Press Conference. A past president of Texas Association of Journalism Educators, Martha has served on the state textbook selection committee, and teaches workshops and seminars for both journalism students and advisers at local, state and national levels. Over the years she had advised student publications, she and her students have earned multiple awards, from state championships to national crown awards. Among her former students are an Emmy Award winning reporter, a director of the United Nations press corps, a network screenwriter, a media information director for the Houston Rockets, and numerous reporters, editors, producers and teachers. Martha is the author of three books. At NextBigStep, she leads a group of talented writers, editors and designers who are creating written projects that are relevant in content and cutting-edge in design.
