We could not be happier with the service that Marissa provided. Our dog started to have seizures and we needed someone to come to our house to trim her nails and shave her paws so that she could be more stable while standing. Marissa squeezed us into her schedule on a Saturday and did not hesitate about our dog's special needs. She was so gentle and sweet with our dog, and took her time so that she was comfortable. She bathed our dog and even put up with our 6 year old son talking/asking questions the whole time; she was just as sweet to him! Marissa brought all of her own supplies, including towels, and cleaned the tub and area where she worked when she was done. We feel so blessed to have found Marissa, she is the best!

Kevin has helped our organization on numerous occasions. He has trained a few of our dogs one on one, been on hand via email/text/phone, and has provided countless support to our rescue dogs. He works in a tactful fashion with those handlers that aren't open minded to different approaches, and has a professional demeanor.

So far I had Mary come out and be introduced to all my animals. She is terrific with the dogs and was a joy to see how well she adapted to all of my other animals on the farm. I feel very comfortable that she will do a great job when I need her either at a moments notice or for a vacation. I am relieved that I will have her here for all of my family pets. She will have five stars when the time comes, I'm sure.

Upon the first meeting with Hilary, I felt that she had a really great attitude and willingness to do whatever it took to make my dog feel comfortable. Super Big Plus...She was able to start right away, which took a lot of stress off of my mind. She's also very easy to work with for any adjustments to the daily/weekly walking schedule. I have a lot of gratitude for her choice to work with animals and it gives me peace of mind, that she knows her stuff.

Rosie is dedicated to ensuring the happiness, safety and well being of animals. Her selfless actions for fostering dogs in particular is truly admirable. She fostered my puppy before he came home to live with me and it was clear he was well taken care of, loved and trained! I highly recommend Rosie to work with any animal. I will be forever grateful to her for all her fostering of innocent homeless dogs.

Sharon is a gem! I have taken my dog Gus to her for both boarding and puppy classes. She is by far one of the most patient animal trainers that I know. Her heart is devoted to loving and caring for animals. She is also very experienced, professional, and flexible with schedules. Your animal will have top notch care at her boarding facility where she spends many hours of her day walking with your pet. Her small operation ensures that your pet gets the care it deserves and is treated like family.

My husband and I have been very happy to have found Janet Echavarry from A Better Dog Training, Inc. We had adopted a rescue dog back in March. The we decided to have him trained as well. Our dog Pistol Pete has been so great since we went through the training. He gets so excited every time Ms. Jan comes over to the house and now since the training is complete, knowing that we can contact her anytime, if we ever need anything or have any questions or concerns. She is wonderful and so helpful. We also take Pistol Pete over to spend time boarding with Ms. Jan for a few days to a week when we are out of town. We are very happy knowing he is being taken care of when we can't be home with him. She has the most clean environment for your pets and they all have a great space to run around and meet new friends. Every dog we saw there were so happy and comfortable in their own kennel. That made me happy knowing when we leave our dog there, he is kept comfortable, happy and spoiled in his air conditioned area and it was always clean!!! And it does not smell like a kennel in there and that really made me happy! If you are thinking about getting your pet trained, you could not pick a better person, or company to do this. We did our homework before choosing her. We contacted several other places in our area but was not happy with any of them and then Ms. Jan was recommended to us by our Vet's office. She came highly recommended and we are so glad we have her taking care of our dog. She is like family to us now and couldn't be happier with the professionalism and services she provides to her clients. So if you are in need of a wonderful, caring and loving person to take care of your pets or need them trained, you really need to check out Janet Echavarry from A Better Dog Training, Inc. You will be very satisfied that you did.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does boarding a horse cost?

Finding the right horse boarding location is a big step in a horse owner’s life. This will be the place your horse will live and where you will visit multiple times per week or even daily. The cost of horse boarding will depend on the level of service you desire, the location of the stables, and the luxury level of the property. Here are some examples of average horse boarding costs:

        • Overnight stabling: $30 per horse per night.
        • Partial boarding (owner feeds and mucks): $220 per horse per month, with a three-month commitment.
          • Administration of oral medication: $10 per dose.
          • Bandaging: $20 per event, plus cost of materials.
          • Trailering to vet if owner is unable: $25, plus $25 per hour to wait with horse.
        • Basic full boarding: $325-$350 per month per horse. Includes twice daily hay and daily stall cleaning.
          • Horse training: $20 per session.
          • Pasture turn out: $20 per session.
          • Blanketing: $1 per day/$30 per month.
          • Vet or farrier hold: $20. This means haltering the horse and standing with it as it receives treatment or shoeing.

Where can I board my horse?

You can board your horse at any barn or stable that provides horse boarding services. To find horse boarding near you, read reviews of area locations and speak with equestrian friends to find one with a solid reputation. Ideally, the location will be within a reasonable drive from your home or office. This is especially important if you are paying for partial boarding services and are responsible for feeding your horse and cleaning its stall each day. You may choose your boarding barn or stables based on the services they provide. Some offer more extensive amenities — at an added price — that reduce the amount of work you need to do to keep your horse comfortable. Consider whether you want training, blanketing, exercise and other perks in addition to standard offerings like hay and stable mucking. Your stable may have temperament requirements and proof that your horse has the proper vaccinations required by your state. This protects both your horse and the other horses in the stable. Many states require that locations offering horse boarding services have stable licenses that are renewed each year. Always be sure to enter into a clearly written boarding contract that will cover your horse and belongings in case of accident, and remember our tips for smart hiring.

        What is horse boarding?

Horse boarding is like rental housing for your horse. Horse boarding is helpful for people who don’t have the space or the resources to install and maintain a stable on their property. A horse can be housed in a barn with other horses and receive the care they need. Owners can visit their horse for riding, grooming, training, etc. Horse boarding services may vary based on the company and the price. Some horse boarders may offer short-term boarding of 24 hours to several nights for people passing through an area, while most offer boarding by the month for horses whose owners live in the area. There is partial- and full-service boarding, which indicates how much of the work of feeding the horse and cleaning the stall is the responsibility of the owner rather than the boarding barn. For an added fee, horse boarding can also include grooming services, riding and training, medication administration, and more.

To find the right boarding fit for you and your horse, make a list of your top priorities. These might include immediate access to riding trails, round-the-clock supervision, or a nearby or affiliated veterinarian. Always visit the site to learn exactly where your horse will be kept and whether the barn and grounds are in good condition. Read reviews, and always practice smart hiring. It’s also critical to sign the proper legal documents that protect both you and your horse, such as boarding agreements. Above all, make sure it seems like a place your horse will be comfortable between your visits.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
