Two projects completed for me: 1. Re-do my door installation. I had someone install my new front door. Extremely poor job done. ROGER to the rescue.....Roger completed the door installation and took special care of the detail work that should have been done initially. 2. This project was to hide my surround speaker wires in my living room. I had 3 bids on this job. Only Roger took the time to really study the job to before giving me a quote. He took the time to pull back some of the base boards to see how complicated it was going to be. That little extra time and forsite into the bid process from him, sold me on hiring him. Not to mention he was very competitive. I will be hiring Roger on other projects coming up. He is someone I now can trust will do a good job. Finally! Thank you Roger. John

Amanda and Charles were worth every penny. Amanda was very professional and thorough in her painting and paid attention to the tiniest of details making our newly painted living room truly shine. After spending an entire day painting the two-story room, she came back in an instant to fix some small blemishes that we noticed. I can’t rant and rave about the experience enough. To top it off, her husband even helped us refasten the gutter to the side of our house! These two will be our go-to team for painting and handyman needs. We were very, very impressed."

Joe, Steve and Chris were nice, professional, and hard-working. They helped us with a variety of home projects including installing overhead garage shelving, light installation, electrical wiring, mounting a television and accessories on the wall, and repairing a crack on wall next to the stone fireplace. We would recommend them and hire them again.

Everything went well. The work done was very professional and exactly what I wanted done. He installed a ceiling fan where a broken fan had been; He returned again at my request and installed a porch ceiling fan, and security motion detector lights. He ran all the wires through the attic so the resulting work was beautiful and clean. I just had him return today to install a light fixture over the dining room table. He is very knowledgeable about the work he did. He gave me options and suggestions about outlets and things I had not considered. He several times made the trip to Home Depot to pick up supplies to get the job done. He even helped me go online to pick out the best type ceiling fan for the porch. He is extremely polite and stays on the job without wasting time. I believe he is relatively new to working with customers but it was all to my advantage b/c I would rather have some one who just wants to make an honest living versus someone just interested in a quick buck. He is extremely conservative in his pricing. I gave him extra most visits b/c I thought he deserved more $ than he was asking. I had a long list of to-dos electrically and they are all done. He was available within a reasonable time and arrived on time or called me if he was running late. This man is THE ELECTRICIAN to hire. You won't regret it.

Eric was Professional, Fast and Affordable!! I just purchased a home build in 1968, needless to say the electrical was old. The previous owner did their own electrical work that was all messed up. So, I had A LOT of things that needed to be fixed. Eric was able to get everything done in a couple days. I was extremely impressed!

I am very pleased with Triple J Handyman Service and would recommend them to friends and family. My project was a repair of an outdoor outlet where the wire had been cut and needed a junction box installed. After fixing the initial issue, Triple J identified a safety issue with the current setup, made his recommendations, provided a straight forward quote for the repairs+materials. We scheduled a time and Triple J showed up and made the repairs and now my pond and outside light are working again! Thanks Triple J! Problem solved!

He was reliable, courteous, conscientious, considerate and skilled. He corrected anything that was not up to his high standards or mine. He always left a clean work site. His work was excellent. He removed ceiling fans, clad an exposed, laminated beam, trimmed the cladding and rehung the fans on a vaulted ceiling. Refinished three doors, installed molding around five doors, corrected problems with two doors’ original installation, installed door knobs on all. Installed baseboard in two rooms. Extensively remodeled an office including: Installed tongue-in-groove aromatic red cedar on one wall Custom framed three windows, two in aromatic red cedar and one in pine. Completed installation of a half-done bead-board ceiling Installed track lighting on said ceiling. Painted said ceiling and the pine window framing Installed wiring raceway along three walls to carry computer wiring. Added a duplex plug to one wall. Finished and installed a “barn door” on an office wall allowing door to slide open and closed without taking up room needed for office furniture. Did a beautiful job. Built a wheelchair ramp along an uneven exit to facilitate safe passage for a newly handicapped resident. I will happily employ him again. Thanks, again.

I hired James to build shelves in my awkwardly shaped closets. They turned out better than I expected. He used great quality wood and trimmed them out so nicely that I didn't want him to paint them! I have no reservations about leaving the closet door open. He also put in cord/wire pass throughs for my tv/stereo equipment. Best thing of all, he was done in 2 days. He is a perfectionist which I appreciate. His pricing is more than fair.

Work Completed: Total Kitchen/Master Bedroom Renovation w/Window replacements/2 Patio Additions Time Line for Completion: 3½ months Completion Date: 12/2012 Project Cost: $70,000 2D to 3D Construction completed a gorgeous renovation and addition to both our Master bedroom & Kitchen/laundry. They extended the outside wall of the master and moving an indoor Jacuzzi tub outside to make the bedroom approximately 100 sf larger. The kitchen was completely gutted and redesigned with a new island, custom cabinets w/beautiful countertops, appliances and new plumbing fixtures/electrical wiring & fixtures. Several walls were moved and structural beams added to expand the square footage space of the rooms. Installed were new tile and wood flooring throughout. A new 12’x12’ patio cover was built over the outdoor Jacuzzi and a beautifully designed 25’x25’ patio was built covering the French door exit from the kitchen/dining area. What an absolutely wonderful difference this has made for us. The subcontractors were polite, helpful, and extremely careful to protect existing conditions. They showed up when they said they would, worked extensively with me to suggest several designs & materials, did absolutely beautiful work, and finished in the time that they had promised. They returned immediately to touch up a few places that need to be corrected and reassured us to call if anything else needed to be adjusted or corrected. We are 100% satisfied with the work and would not hesitate to recommend 2D to 3D Construction to anyone else for their project(s). Diane L

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
    • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
    • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
    • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

    • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
    • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
    • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
    • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
    • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
    • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
    • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
    • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
