Introduction: I prefer to view a dance space much like an artist's canvas, where objects within a dance space can be utilized; like an artist would manipulate different mediums in creating a work of art. Where most dance instructors prefer to make regular use of a studio setting alone, I prefer to make use of a myriad of dance spaces which allows for more creative flexibility and experimentation. I enjoy exposing others to a variety of different dance styles, so that each student can experience the unique qualities within those genres. This allows each student to more freely explore their own preferences and assists each individual in finding their best creative expressions within dance.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am consistently experimenting with new expressive arts in an academic setting. I have incorporated some of this education within dance, such as Acting, Intra-Lingual Skills, American Sign Language, Introduction to the Deaf Community and Visual Gestural Communications. These classes have been successfully completed with Honors, at San Antonio College.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have a dedicated passion for dance as a art form. To me, dance is much like poetry, music, and storytelling. It is an inner expression that is told by the body in many ways. One might tell their story with elegant grace, descriptive detail, emotional delicacy, or mirrored rage, to name only a few; or perhaps a multi-versed combination of these. Within modern dance, it is my belief that there are no boundaries or limits as to what an individual can do.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Dance is a flexible, manipulative process of dedication, trial, error, and success. I try to get students to erase some of the preconceived ideas or limitations they have been taught about dance. This allows lessons to become more like an exchange free flowing ideas rather than ridged rules and guidelines that can block creative expression.
