Introduction: I am an accredited teacher of mix singing technique with IVTOM, International Voice Teachers of Mix. I teach any vocal style from classical to pop, but focus on r&b, pop, rock, indie, alternative, and soul. In addition to teaching mix vocal technique, I have years of experience and insight with songwriting and live performance being on season 23 of NBC The Voice and as an active musical artist I am able to help you become a better, more confident singer and performer. Since 2015, I've been helping singers find their own unique style and voice.

EJ is my first vocal coach and he’s incredible! After only two lessons I’ve already learned so much and can feel/hear an improvement in my voice! He is very encouraging and will always let you know when you’re doing a good job! I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone who is looking for a vocal coach!

I’ve been singing all of my life, but I’ve lacked the fine tuning needed to be a good quality singer. He didn’t make the lesson hard at all. When it came time to sing I felt like it flowed well and was easier. I was impressed and will continue going.

I started voice lessons a few weeks ago with EJ Michael’s, and I’m blown away by my progress. Prior to working with him, I’d never had voice lessons before, but I’d purchased several online courses through Udemy and watched online tutorials on youtube, and I was frustrated and unsure about how to progress. It’s hard to put into words just how amazing it is to work with someone who is so professional, kind and encouraging and knows the latest cutting edge vocals techniques and can teach and demonstrate how to sing anything you want to sing. He’s an incredible singer, songwriter, and producer who is can sing as well if not better my favorite artists, and even though he’s extremely busy at times touring the world as the lead singer of his band Foreign Figures, performing and giving inspirational live performances and talks at schools and venues like TEDx Salt Lake City, he somehow manages to pour an incredible amount energy into helping his students to achieve their goals. I studied classical piano for 8 years while I was growing up, and I've always had a pretty nice voice. I played the piano professionally for church for years, and but for some reason, I had the misconception that you’re stuck with the voice you’re born with and until very recently I didn't know it was possible to build muscle memory in my voice with vocal exercises. I can't believe how much range, control and power I've gained in less than a month of doing the exercises every day and having weekly lessons with EJ Michels. I finally feel like I'm building the tools I need to make music I love because I have my whole voice to work with, not just a limited range. It feels so good because for the first time in 20 years or so, I feel like I’m making real progress, having fun and enjoying my life. The money I’ve spent on lessons with EJ Michels is hands down the best money I’ve ever spent pursuing my goals in music, and I can’t say enough good things about him.

EJ is the best! I have never done any voice lessons of any kind. EJ made it easy to get started. He’s encouraging and has a great ear. I look forward to our sessions every week. Highly recommend him to anyone.

I charge $60 per thirty minute lesson.

I use the first lesson to get acquainted with my student and their specific needs and goals in learning how to sing their very best.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been professionally trained in Speech Level Singing technique since 2008-present. I was taught the piano from age 7 in the Suzuki method. I've been teaching private voice lessons since 2015, and I've been performing around the world professionally with my group Foreign Figures since 2014. Currently I’ve finished my run on season 23 of NBC The Voice and made it into the top 24.
