Rich came and steam cleaned my microfiber couch as well as some wool and polyester rugs and they've never looked better! I have ferrets and the smell got into the couch and he was able to get it out! Amazing!

John was timely and thorough. He described what he was going to do and did it well. He used a dry cleaning system that allowed the carpet to dry quickly as this was important as we are a business. Clark Wilkinson, CPA

I was in a bind needing a house cleaner last minute to clean our new house before we move in as we were in a time crunch and needed to move the next day. Patricia responded to my messages quickly and she was able to come that same day. I was very happy! She was prompt on time and brought all her own supplies. She cleaned up our new house for us and it smells clean and ready to be moved in. They are also very reasonably priced. Great company!

I needed my rental cleaned in a hurry and VIP clean was the first company that had immediate availability. I'm happy with the quality of their work. The only issue I have is that I requested window cleaning but that didn't get done. Other than that, I'm happy with my experience with VIP clean.

I live in a house with white carpets (not sure what our landlord was thinking) that are extremely difficult to keep clean with my house full of teenagers and their friend constantly tracking dirt in. Court, the Oxi Fresh technician showed up on time, did a walk through with me and took the time to explain how their products work. He wore booties and cleaned the carpets thoroughly throughout all of the rooms. He was even able to get red hair dye (thank you teenage daughter;) out of the carpets by the bathroom that I never thought would come out! I appreciated his professionalism and consider my money very well spent. I will definitely be calling him for our next cleaning. I love the spotter bottle he gave to me for free to maintain any accidents or spots that may happen between cleaning. Thank you Oxi Fresh!

My mother passed away and I had to put her condo up for sale, but the carpets looked terrible! I saw an ad for United Catpets and asked if they could clean hers in American Fork and they said yes! The day of the appointment I asked if they knew what time they would be arriving because I lived in Salt Lake and would have to meet them. Vince was so awesome, he waited for us to get there! My moms condo also didn’t have very good access, but Vince worked with my husband to get it figured out. All this and he kept to his original quote and the carpets look better than any carpet cleaning job I have ever seen!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

      What is upholstery cleaning?

From your carpets to your drapes to your furniture, all fabrics need to be cleaned. Cleaning upholstery, or the fabric on your furniture, removes the dirt and oils that are transferred to couches and chairs through regular use. Because furniture upholstery can be delicate and colors can fade easily, it’s often a good idea to let professional sofa cleaners handle the job. They’ll determine the type of fabric — usually cotton, linen, wool, suede or microfiber — and the appropriate method for cleaning it, either steam-cleaning or applying a dry-cleaning solvent. In general, cleaning an entire piece of furniture includes a pretreatment, cleaning, and neutralizing rinse to the body, plus removing and cleaning all cushions and cleaning all crevices.

An upholstery cleaner may clean the entire piece of furniture, on a regular schedule or by request, or do spot treatments to remove pet, food, drink, or oil and grease stains. Furniture can also be deodorized to remove the smell of pets or tobacco smoke. Furniture that’s used often, like that in your family room, should be cleaned once a year to keep it fresh and extend its life. Sofa cleaners often also offer repair services to mend tears in fabric or patch holes in leather.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How much does it cost to clean a carpet?

Carpet cleaning costs vary depending on the type of cleaning, such as steam cleaning, and whether there are any stains that require special treatment. The main cost factors are the square footage of the carpet and the material it’s made from. The national average carpet cleaning price ranges from $100 to $130 for a typical suburban home, but steam cleaning prices start at an average of $120. In general, professional carpet cleaning ranges from an average of 20 cents to 50 cents per square foot, depending on where you live. Many companies have a minimum fee or room requirement — such as two rooms for an average of $40 each — and will charge more to clean carpeted stairs or a second floor. Finally, the carpet fiber type, density and pile will also affect the cost of cleaning; man-made fibers are stain-resistant and easier to clean, while wool carpeting is sensitive to water and requires more care.
