Introduction: I promote confidence in my students and stand apart from other voice instructors in several key ways:
First, my own vocal training has been with different voice teachers who specialize in different genres (opera, art song and musical theater), and has given me a keen understanding of the general and more subtle nuances of each style.
Second, having both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Vocal Performance sets me apart from most voice teachers in the area, who typically only have a Bachelor's Degree.
Third, the breadth of my experience extends well beyond singing just a couple recitals in college in order to receive my BA. I have performed several recitals in a variety of styles and numerous stage roles in theater, opera and musical theater. I am also a state-wide champion in NATS vocal competitions (in both classical and musical theater genres). These things give my students the opportunity to work with someone whose knowledge and expertise cover whatever style(s) they choose to study.
Lastly, unlike most other voice teachers in Utah, I have paid professional experience as an artistic director, musical director and producer, so I have the ability to prepare my students for auditions and roles in a way that other voice teachers can not.
What do I love most about what I do?
I love helping my students come to what I call "light bulb moments," when things come together in a way that what was once difficult becomes easy...effortless, really. The light bulb goes off and the student achieves mastery of a certain technique that will be with them for the rest of their life.
