My work stands out because I am trained in strategic teaching. I use approaches and strategies keyed to a learner's individual needs. My students not only learn skills, they learn how to learn in their learning style.
I love teaching! I am a retired teacher. I was certified as a teacher of children who learn differently: This includes ADHD, Dyslexia, Executive Functioning, aspects of written expression, and test preparation. I also offer homework coaching for those students who experience difficulty in starting and completing homework. I am always as excited as my students when they overcome a struggling area and see that they can be successful. Such a moment is beyond gratifying. It is a joint exaltation!!
During and since Covid 19, my service has become online only. I meet students one on one remotely. We share materials by scanning, screen sharing, and ordering specific texts aligned with the student's needs.

My husband and I have been using Above The Mark Learning for our 11 & 13 yr old boys for 2+ yrs. Ms. Dunbar is a retired teacher who take pride into pouring into each child. She began working with our children when they were enrolled in a charter school. She has since helped the children remain successful during virtual learning and successfully transition into private school.
One of our children learns differently. Not only has Ms. Dunbar helped his confidence grow, she has helped his grades improve to all A’s & B’s! Her expectations and standards are high for both parent and child. This approach helps both in and out of the classroom.
She has helped equip my husband and I with the tools to better understand the needs of our children. As a result, we have become more patient and aware of the way we approach our children.
Lastly, she prepares and in depth debrief and actions steps after each session. She is invested with both her time and heart!

Ms. Dunbar was referred to me by my son's English teacher, after it was discovered that he had not learned to read phonetically. Ms. Dunbar arrived on time with a clear plan of what to work on. She followed up with me after each session, making sure we were all in agreement as to next steps. I highly recommend Ms. Dunbar.

Mrs. Dunbar helped me with my writing during my senior year in high school. She continues to give me suggestions on my paper through Google Docs since I started college last year. Mrs. Dunbar is very dedicated to her job. She not only points out my grammar mistakes but also shows me directions of further development of my paper. She definitely has helped me strengthen my writing skills!

My time with Barbara helped me be successful. She always provided me with helpful recourses to refer to when it came to writing and grammar. She taught me how to be a great writer and helped me include all the tools and structure needed to have an excellent paper. Our sessions were wonderful. Barbara is the perfect balance of loving and caring but also professional. She has equipped me to be successful. Our time together was so special.
