About
Now offering voice lessons online!!! I have over 20 years of experience teaching students of all ages and levels and all musical styles. My students have been accepted to District Chorus, All-State Chorus, Honors Choir and have won principal roles in both community and school productions. Many of my students have also been accepted into competitive summer programs including the VA Governor’s School, the Crittenden Opera Workshop, Brevard Summer Music Festival, NYU Tisch Summer Festival, and more. Graduating students have been accepted to Musical Theatre, Voice & Music Education programs at colleges including Hartt School of Music, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), James Madison University (JMU), NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and Old Dominion University. My teaching method focuses on good breathing, vocal support, forward placement, clear diction, and freedom of sound. This technique can be applied to a variety of musical styles. Because everyone learns differently, I tailor my teaching methods to the individual. I consider explanations and terminology that each student can comprehend. I often pull from a student’s own interests and skill sets to assist me in understanding how to relate to him/her. Some students learn better when things are technically explained to them while others learn better through imagery. I believe it is my job as the teacher to find the best way to describe things so a student can grasp these concepts being taught. I do encourage students to give me his/her input and observations during lessons in order to reinforce the learning process. Everyone has a different way of learning and their own unique perceptions. My teaching methods all depend on the individual. Along with vocal technique, my students learn to sing expressively using various acting and performance techniques. They study the music and lyrics and learn to use gestures and facial expressions to communicate the text and portray the character, attitude, and emotions of a song to the audience. When appropriate, my students may also learn to use staging or choreography to enhance their acting skills. With all they learn in voice lessons about both, vocal technique and music theory as well as movement and acting, students are able to use these techniques to strengthen their performance in other venues. I love seeing the progress from week to week that my students make. It is more about how they grow vocally and improve both their skills and talents as well as their confidence. When a student has that small breakthrough in a lesson, it is a moment to celebrate.

She took into consideration the information we provided regarding our daughter and her level of experience. Nicole began with an evaluation and was quickly able to begin a program that was at our daughter's comfort level. It made learning music a good experience.

Nicole is a wonderful teacher. I had never had singing lessons before but she made me feel totally at ease. Her teaching method is totally individualized and I learn something new every week. She is very encouraging, has a broad knowledge of many different styles of music and enjoys exploring these with her students. Nicole has a very pleasant manner, a sense of humor and lessons are fun!

My experience with Nicole Lamm has been absolutely fantastic! She was my private vocal instructor for two and a half years before I went to college and I could not have been happier studying with anyone else. She prepared me with good technique and repertoire for my college career as a music education major at the Hartt School of Music, and helped me get to this point by advising me on college auditions and programs. In lessons, Nicole is very direct and clear, giving good instructions in a variety of ways to find what clicks for students. She is constructive in her criticism and encouraging in her praise. The winter and spring recitals that she puts together are perfect opportunities for students to learn the art of performance and take pride in their accomplishments. I would recommend Nicole Lamm to anyone!

Ms. Nicole Lamm was my very first voice teacher. I started taking voice lessons with her at about age 13, and continued for over 5 years, for all of 8th-12th grades. Being at the most beginning stages of singing, Nicole not only introduced me to a genre of music that I never thought I would sing, but that I would easily fall in love with. She brought me from an inexperienced child to a young lady, preparing me and instilling in me musicianship, work ethic and and a passion for classical music, including art song, musical theater and opera. Her teachings are affective for anyone, young or old, beginner or professional. Because of her patience and time spent with me all those years, I have been singing for over 10 and am continuing my studies as an opera singer, a career that began with her and will last a lifetime.
