I understand that behavioral problems can arise at any time during a dog's development and life. There are many different stages in a dog's development, I offer sessions to suit the level of training you need now or in the future. K-9 Life, comes to where the behavior problems are...HOME. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, we have sessions in YOUR home, or even out in public!, I call these sessions "field trips", because they are new environments, where you and your dog must work as a team, to accomplish certain goals that you may have. Hello, I'm Jessica. I have been "reprogramming" dogs and coaching owners for over 20 years. I studied at the Animal Behavior College and went on to qualify as a mentor trainer for the college. I have also been awarded the V.I.P. award for the 2013-2014 year with the Worldwide Who's Who. Recently, I have gone back to my studies of Animal Behavior and Training, with Udemy, (the renowned doc and trainer Ian Dunbar), grasping my certification in Crucial Concepts to Dog Behavior and Training. The goal of K-9 Life is to help reduce the shelter's burden on relinquished dogs, because of behavior issues or lack of communication/training. I am here to help you get the relationship/bond that you and your family, "extended members", too, get onto the same page and have a happy healthy life together. We have had wonderful results with Jessie working with our 120 lb Rodesian Ridgeback, Rhett, who was a total hand full until Jessie made him a gentle baby. He now loves cats and even is gentle with baby kittens and minds our commands without hesitation.

My dog was a stubborn older chow/lab mix. Yes you can teach an old dog new tricks. Jessica has proven this by the training she has provided in such a short time. She has made a new dog of him, which I never thought possible.

She really knows how to train a dog. She is very polite and calm with them. I've seen a few of her trained dogs and they are extremely well trained.

I just wanted to post to say how amazing my first lesson was. My dog Maddie is a very scared dog, so I thought she would be harder to get through than most. She is frightened by noises, wont walk on a leash (unless it is a trail with no one around) and if she is scared for whatever reason, she wont even go in our own back yard. She, in essence, is a homebody (and very well behaved there). The first lesson Jessica came and Maddie was doing her normal barking, tail tucked between her legs running around the house, afraid of strangers. However, within the first 10 minutes, she got Maddie to warm up, the tail was un-tucked and she was playing! The best part was she was able to get Maddie to walk on her leash outside, around the block. Normally, when I try and walk her anywhere near cars, noises and people, she immediately freezes and refuses to walk. Jessica got her to walk around our apartment complex, no problem. I was amazed. I have been using the same techniques and have been able to walk her much farther distances these past few days. I highly recommend Jessica and I cant wait until I have more lessons to work out all Maddies little quirks.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Please realize I am in Charlottesville, VA. There will be travel time added to any service, 30 minutes from Charlottesville, VA, in ANY direction. NOTE: This DOES NOT take away from ANY of the training session at all! Please reach out through the website, to get a precise quote today!
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to get to know my customers, either with a call/email or text, preferably BEFORE our first session. Getting a little "background" on the family and dog first. Next I ask the customer to sit down with the family and come up with a list of things that they are wanting the dog to "know" already, the behaviors they want to "extinguish". Next comes the meeting, I come to your home so that I can see the exact behaviors you have explained to me on the phone, and to see you and your dog interact. Also, it's best to be at home, as this is usually where the "unwanted" behaviors start. Next comes the behavior training/modification. Afterwards, you get homework emailed to you, within a day's time, of the things you worked on with your dog. I'm always available to my clients. Night or day.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Certificates in Dog training, Mentor Dog Trainer at Animal Behavior College. Certificate in Crucial Concepts in Dog Behavior and Training at Udemy. Years upon years, of continuous interaction with dogs of all sizes, shapes and personalities. What can I say? I'm a dog person! :)
