I'm a medical professional, and I deal with many Spanish speaking patients on a daily basis. I needed to learn Spanish from scratch, and though I had taken online courses before, nothing would stick. I looked for a native teacher, and I came accross Raquel's website, and decided to give it a try. Am I glad I did that! We focussed our classes first on learning the basics, and then more on medical Spanish. I'm amazed how I now can converse in Spanish with my patients without a translator, it has really made a difference in my professional life. Raquel got me so interested in Spanish that I plan to continue learning beyond just medical Spanish. Also, she is a great person, and funny. I'm always looking forward to my next Spanish lesson with her. Muchas gracias, Raquel!Aug 3, 2017Arriba! Spanish Lessons and Courses in Charlottesville's reply

My husband and I have been studying Spanish with Raquel for almost a year. We love her. She is very good at explaining the material and is very patient when you don't quite grasp the information. She always makes it fun, and she is a great motivator, too. We look forward to going to class every week. She is great at making a personal connection with her students.Aug 4, 2017
I've been taking private lessons with Raquel for a couple months now and I'm surprised at how my Spanish has improved. I took Spanish at school, but needed to take it further. She helped me overcome my fear of speaking very quickly and advance to more complex language in the few months I've been with her. I don't even feel that I'm going to class, I'm simply going to visit a friend who speaks in Spanish with me. I even hesitated to write this good review, cause I want her all for myself!Aug 3, 2017Arriba! Spanish Lessons and Courses in Charlottesville's reply
Gracias, Bob. Yo también te considero un buen amigo. Nadie como tú prepara barbacoas tan ricas!
My friend and I were inspired to learn Spanish after exploring the Inca Trail. We took 16 lessons with Raquel, and it was terrific. The teaching method she uses is great in helping you learn and retain new vocabulary and verb conjugation. I also really liked her emphasis on proper pronunciation from day one. I majored in Italian and have studied Spanish and Chinese before, and this was by far the best and most effective language instruction I have ever received. I plan to continue with my Spanish classes until I'm fully fluent. Raquel, gracias, y nos vemos pronto!Aug 4, 2017
This is the best place to go if you want to learn Spanish! Really!! Raquel’s approach of interactive classes really works! And they are fun!! In the past I took different Spanish courses, but for the first time, I feel I can interact very comfortably in a foreign language, even on business trips. I feel bilingual now! :) ¡Gracias!Aug 17, 2017

- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? The first thing I do is ask about the student's needs, and identify the skills we need to work on, and do a short level test. Then, we talk about our schedules, to agree on possible times to have the lessons, and how many lessons per week he/she needs, or can take. Then, I give him/her a quote for the amount of lessons she/he wants to take. And we are ready to start whenever the student is ready.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I hold a Bachelors degree in Education from the Complutense university in Madrid (Spain), and a Masters degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, from the university of Jaen (Spain). I have been a Spanish teacher for 20 years, in Australia and in the U.S.
