I used to be just a mediocre rider, always letting myself get lazy and fall out of balance or let the horse get out of control. When I started learning from Nancy I saw instant improvement. Because Nancy works from the ground up, I'm able to do anything I want--from Natural Horsemanship to Western Pleasure to Classical Dressage if I desired. What I enjoy most about Morning Mist Farm is that the teaching style is firm but gentle and the horses are safe and fun.

Megan (and her horses) taught me a great amount. She has a vast knowledge of training, showing and general horsemanship. I was fortunate to work with her and learn from her. She is fun and educational - something that most trainers I've met, don't have the two qualities together. I think the best part about her training method is that she makes the learning process easy; she helped me through mistakes, explained more complicated techniques and movements, and her patience and reassurance kept me confident and eager to do more. She has three fantastic horses that she's trained and they make fantastic lesson and competition horses - from intro/WTC to eventing/advanced level riding. Megan is a reliable resource and I am very grateful for her training.

We have been with Jen Rogala for over 7 years. Jen is a rare find when it comes to professional trainers who still ride and train horses. Jen's work ethic and horsemanship is above par. She is a wonderful role model for young women. My daughter's riding has improved tremendously under her coaching. When it was time to move from our pony to a horse, Jen was instrumental in finding our gelding. Her ability to match the rider to the horse is outstanding. Silver Hawk Farm's barn is clean. The footing in the indoor ring is great. The care of the horses is wonderful. This barn is a must for horse enthusiasts who currently ride or who are looking to try the sport. Best value by far in the area. You will not be disappointed.

Helaine was awesome to help me regain my confidence after a horrid fall. I was having a hard time riding my then young horse properly and advancing him in his training, but she helped with all of that. Always on time, great communication and awesome teacher. You wont be dissapointed! Highly reccommend!!

About

Principal trainer and instructor, Liz Castelhano Silvia, started her riding career at the age of 7 in North Salem, NY. By age 8 she was showing ponies successfully and began training with Carol Jungherr Goldberg where she enjoyed great success at the AA show level. Liz moved on to work and ride with three-time Olympian Michael Page at Old Salem Farm in North Salem, NY. After much success, Liz came to Virginia to continue her work at the top level of hunter show riding. She was an instructor at the prestigious and highly acclaimed Vienna Junior Riding School with the legendary Jane M. Dillon. In 1988 Liz was asked to run and operate Dogwood Farm in Great Falls, Virginia. There, Liz boarded over 30 horses and taught riding lessons to students from the ages of 4 through high school. She was also the riding instructor for the Madeira School in McLean, VA. Liz's experience spans from riding ponies and horses at Madison Square Garden, to teaching, to a career as horse show judge. Today, Liz offers you and your children the opportunity to learn to ride, develop great friendships in a safe and friendly family environment. You can be confident that you child will have attention and training from a loving professional who cares about your child, their progress, and success. Liz loves a barn filled with children. The children love her. In fact, many of her young students from Great Falls, now in their 20's still stay in touch with her and remind her of the great times they had riding with her. If your child has been asking to ride, and you want them to learn proper riding skills and horsemanship in a small, safe, and friendly environment, please call us to see for yourself how your child will benefit. Your child will learn all phases of riding and horsemanship. From safe handling of horses/ponies to effective riding skills to enable them to ride a number of different horses and progress from beginner to advanced rider. Our private lessons provide careful one-on-one time with Liz and your child. She will teach at your child's rate by encouraging success through careful explanation and demonstration. Group lessons are a fun and economic way of learning to ride through camaraderie and further observation of all instruction with each student. Liz designs careful and fun ways to teach children the joy of riding while continually reinforcing the positive. Through lessons on and off the horses/ponies, students learn respect, responsibility, and discipline while enjoying the challenges and forging friendships.

About

Our trainers have years of experience working with "problem" horses. While we love giving lessons or working with experienced horses who just need some reminders, putting time into a horse who isn't too sure that they want to be ridden is great fun! Two things are great: that smile a rider gets when they click with a horse or have a great ride, and the feeling a trainer gets when a horse learns something new from them. But absolutely nothing beats watching a rescued horse find its permanent home with people who will love it forever.
