Dr. Caryn Self-Sullivan is an outstanding animal training professional. Her gentle behavior modification technique perfectly fit our personal attitude toward humane animal treatment. After just her first visit she assured us that the goals we have for our six dogs were attainable and she provided clear training guidance that we could practice ourselves. We eagerly look forward to continuing with her effective guidance for both our dogs and us as well. She is just the professional we were looking for.

My husband and I - and our young male white shepherd - were beyond happy with Dr. Caryn's learning sessions at our house over six sessions of training. She was always clear about what she wanted us to accomplish with our puppy and worked hard to make it work for us. We believe that Dr. Caryn has set us on a path to continued learning for us with our shepherd, Harry. We plan to remain in communication with her and from time to time have follow up training sessions with her. We'd not have found her without Thumbtack. Thanks.

Caryn is wonderful! She helped with obedience training with our Staffordshire Terrior/Pitbull. We plan on using her for follow up and other types of training.

Caryn was able to work with us and our Sheep dog. Coming to our home made the training sessions so much easier and effective. She brought a lot of patience as well as the primary care giver for our Sheep Dog is also hearing impaired- I can't say enough about Caryn other than THANK YOU!! 😃

Dr Caryn is an excellent trainer. She is extremely patient with the pets and especially the owner. I learned so much from her positive reinforcement method, She is also a wonderful resource on all things "dog". My dog has tons of health problems and her training made a huge difference in how we handle his issues. She is also a brilliant, kind and caring person who is so easy to be around. I can't say enough good things about my entire experience with Dr. Caryn. Give her a try!

My 20-minute phone consult is free. My initial evaluation and consult in your home is $175. Follow-up sessions are $125. I offer discounts for training packages.

Step 1: Free 20-minute phone consult, with email follow-up Step 2: Client completes Canine Intake Form & schedules in-home consultation Step 3: Private in-home consultation completed, recommendations made Step 4: Private, personalized training program implemented
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a PhD in Animal Behavior; I'm a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP) and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA). I'm also licensed or certified by Operation Socialization, Family Paws Parent Education, The Pet Professional Guild, and Doggone Safe. I am passionate about animal behavior, engaging in over 100 hours of continuing education each year, far exceeding the requirements of my professional organizations. Academically, I follow the scientific advances being made at universities around the world.
