I hired Bill for electric guitar lessons. I actually shopped for an instructor who would fit my learning style best. I learn by doing things hands-on, not so much auditory learning. After trying 4 different instructors, I decided Bill was the best fit for me. Other instructors were good but did not have what I was looking for such as: not teaching according to my learning style, not understanding my goals, or making me feel like I learned nothing after the first lesson. I felt none of these will Bill. After my first lesson with him, I knew he would be a great fit for me. You can just tell he has experience by interacting with him. I left the lesson feeling satisfied with the information I learned and that I am capable of reaching my goals. He takes his time with each lesson, does not rush, and welcomes all questions. He is patient with newbies like me and adept at explaining things in a manner that I will understand. I never feel overwhelmed with the information he gives. I like that he gives positive encouragement when you do something correctly. He will also help you correct you if you have bad form/technique. Bill is very professional, he responds to inquiries quickly. He has the knowledge, experience, and background to help you reach your goals. He has a great personality and is willing to work with your schedule. I highly recommend Bill as an instructor!Jun 29, 2017Verified
Guitar Lessons (for adults)
I am only four lessons in with Bill, and in an extremely short period of time I'm happy to report I've learned more in four sessions than I could have ever imagined. His teaching style adapts immediately to the ability, skill level and goals of his students -- Bill also asks his students what they are most interested in learning as well to integrate those goals into each lesson. Bill provides exercises in between sessions to help keep practice consistent and ensure that students also achieve results. I personally can't wait for my next lesson and looking forward to many more with Bill! I would highly recommend Bill to anyone of all skill levels who are considering guitar lessons.Jun 25, 2017Verified
I got my first guitar last Christmas (at 52!) and thought I'd take a couple of lessons to get started. I saw Bill's ad, liked what he had written (though I have to say I was a little skeptical) but thought, probably no harm in taking a couple lessons and then doing the rest on my own with free YouTube videos. Well, here I am, almost one year and 52 lessons later, playing guitar like I never dreamed possible! And no YouTube in sight. Nothing but Bill Twilde's exceptional guitar teaching and mentoring. You know, you come across true teachers like this once, maybe twice in your life. I wasn't even sure I could form a single chord with my fingers. But because of Bill's gentle, intuitive guidance, I learned I can do more than I ever thought possible! Ok, I guess I'm gushing now but it's kind of hard to stop. He's really that good. Go see him play out somewhere in the meantime, and imagine taking lessons from someone who is also that great a performer. Been an awesome experience for me and can hardly wait to start year two!Dec 27, 2015
Bill could not have been better. Great guy and great to work with. Understands how to teach to people at different levels. Pleasant and flexible. Also, a great guitar player.Oct 24, 2017Verified
Guitar Lessons (for adults)
Right on the money for what I want in guitar instructionDec 30, 2015Verified
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I mostly teach at my in-home music studio in Fairfax Va, however I will travel to select students for an additional $10 up to 15 miles away from the 22033 area code. No complicated pricing system. Simply the hourly rate, paid each lesson in cash, check or paypal. No formal commitments needed unless you would like to reserve a specific time slot each week and you only need to pay for one lesson at a time. Students do not need to pay for a block of lessons up front like most music stores.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?First I start with a phone conversation to get an idea of what a particular client is looking for in terms of wanting to learn guitar. What types of motivation is driving them to wish to start to learn, followed by a brief discussion in the types of music that they would like to play. After comparing schedules we will find a mutual time to start for a first try a lesson, in which we further get to know one another and I assess what type of background a potential student might have in regards to music. If a student has had any prior learning with Guitar I will find out what skills they have to improve upon and if a student is a total beginner, I start them from step one to build the foundation to get them playing as fast as possible. i'll take an assessment of the types of style and learning method that each particular student seems suited the best for as well as understanding their specific initiatives in terms of how fast they want to be able to be playing at a certain level, and take into consideration how much time they will have to dedicate to practicing so that I can better help assist them in their time outside of our lessons.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a degree in Public Relations and minor in Music Education. I stay in tune with all the latest news in guitar tricks, and techniques and teaching methods.
