FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For consulting I charge $375 for the first hour and $125/hour after that. A consultation is quite often all that's necessary, but for smaller projects I can prepare a design during the same visit if we agree a plan is needed. Regarding design work that is more in-depth, the hours required to measure a site and prepare a complete set of plans varies greatly. The minimum is usually about 24 hours if a project requires me going back to the office to complete a drawing. It's not at all uncommon to spend 40 to 60 hours or more on drawings for projects that are large in scope.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It's usually best to start by giving me a tour of the property and describing what you'd like to accomplish. Every homeowner and every situation is different so an initial consultation can go in many different directions. My goal would be to outline a way forward both for the aesthetics and for the construction process so that you can get the greatest value and avoid making mistakes, however you decide to move forward.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a landscape architecture degree from Louisiana State University and have been working as a landscape architect in Northern Virginia since 1995. I'm unique in that I have worked professionally on both sides of the equation, both as an independent landscape architect who manages construction and also as a contractor who has worked under the direction of independent landscape architects. I've done both commercial and residential work and have extensive experience in all aspects of landscape construction, and some experience in building construction.
