I could not seem to score well on the ACT. I ended up with Arbor Tutors and had a tutor who met me every week for 8 weeks and when I took the test and got an excellent score (33). Worth every cent.

My daughter has come across many tutors, but non like Nema. Simply put – Nema is passionate about learning; an essential characteristic of any tutor. He empowers you to master the art of math in a way I have not seen before. I’ve observed his method of story-telling and repetition to help my daughter learn math concepts. In a matter of three visits, she has learned trigonometry and then some. What I also value is the reinforcement work that Nema leaves her with after each visit. I am utterly pleased with Nema’s performance and his price range, which many families can work with.

Mr. Mougy Ahmed has done wonders as a math tutor for our sophomore son! He has a very agreeable, non-threatening tutoring style, and our son enjoyed working with him right away. Our son was getting D's and C's in Algebra II , even with the assistance of a previous math tutor. Mougy came to our house and immediately recognized where our son was misunderstanding foundational concepts in Algebra II, and worked with him to build up that knowledge base and apply those skills correctly. He has been highly responsive in setting up tutoring sessions, sending additional lessons/exercises via email, and even holding extra sessions in advance of math tests/quizzes. As a direct result of Mougy's tutoring, our son earned a B+ and an A on his last two math tests. We highly recommend him to any student or parent who is searching for tutoring assistance.

About

I am attending Georgetown's full-time MBA program this fall, and I can't be any more excited about this! I have started my own math tutoring business. My day job is an actuarial consultant, where I must effectively communicate mathematical concepts on a daily basis. I have undergraduate degrees in statistics and economics from the University of Maryland (2006). I have a strong and comprehensive math background, but I specialize in tutoring the following: * GMAT Math * GRE Math * SAT Math * Stats In the past, I have spent about half of my time prepping people for standardized tests and about half of my time tutoring people enrolled in Statistics courses. About

Unlike many other tutoring services, Capital Tutoring understands that real progress is only made once the student and tutor have a personal connection. This allows for open communication between both parties and allows our tutors to identify the root causes behind problems (academic or otherwise) so that we can work with the student and their parents to address these challenges in the present and long term. At Capital Tutoring we enjoy success. And we measure our successes through those of our clients. We have had a 100% college acceptance rate with our clients at a number of well known universities. We have also supported clients later in life with finding jobs and careers as they transition from being students to contributing members of the workplace.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

  • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
  • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
  • National average cost for reading and writing home tutor: $40-$60 per hour.
