- How did you get started doing this type of work?
At age 16, I was hired by a homecare provider company as a janitor during the summer. Because I consistently did a great job one of the managers asked me to clean their home during my off duty hours. After the first cleaning, the word spread like wild fire and I started to clean houses on the weekends. After a few decades serving our country, I decided that the niche was still there, and started my own business.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Aside of the basics of being licensed, bonded and insured. The most critical part in determining whether a cleaning company will do an exceptional job for you is during the walkthrough of your home or business. For example: We ask many questions and look in detail at many items in the home (baseboards, door frames, wood trim, behind blinds, ceiling fans, behind curtains, under furniture, beds, inside microwave, etc.) Many times we find/inspect things that other companies do not look at. A cheap price is not necessarily the best deal. On the surface it may sound like a great bargain. But remember, you get what you pay for. You must know what is covered the price quoted. What items are cleaned on every visit and which ones are cleaned on a rotating basis or which items are cleaned for an extra fee. We provide a checklist that details by room/area what is to be cleaned and when. This serves two purposes: (1) Provides clarity in what is expected and (2) Serves as a memory jogger for the cleaning crew. Pay close attention to what they say about how long it will take to clean your home. In reality this timeline is directly tied into your price. Is the time they will spend in your home realistic with the work to be done and price quoted. Closely related to this is how many jobs the team assigned to you will have on your scheduled day. This is critical because it determines the crews pace of work. It too many jobs are assigned, this may lead to shortcuts and low quality. We work in teams of two and do not assign more than two housecleanings per day. In larger homes, we only assign one housecleaning per day. This allows us the flexibility to spend more time in the home if needed or requested by the homeowner. Of course, any additional work that is requested, will be billed as agreed upon by us and client. Ask for references or customer reviews.
