My experience with Tony n his crew was great. We had a bad series of water damage in our home. The original contractors we hired left the job incomplete and bailed on us. Tony came to the rescue. He not only finished our bathroom but he put his two cents into it and made it look better than the original repair work for a reasonable quote. He's very professional. He even did some handyman work around the home like fix my door knob, paint an unfinished wall unrelated to the water damage for free. The crew cleaned up after themselves and went over their work to make sure they covered everything. He's very detail oriented. And has a passion for what he does. He put his focus on making sure his customer's happy. I will definitely call him again for our next home project.

John was extremely knowledgeable and professional. He moved our wall TV and second tv to our new residence with ease and hid wires making it look appealing. John has other talents attractive to retired people that don't care to do work around the house. We are planning to have John do some plumbing installation as well as change some door locks in our new home. We have found a gem!

I had water damage to subflooring from door leaks. We needed the entire subfloor in the laundry room and a piece about 8' x 24" in our Family Room replaced, with Durock in the laundry so I could lay tile later. The laundry room had linoleum but the family room has 3/4" hardwood. I had enough leftover wood to replace what had to be torn out to get to the subfloor, so the crew did that as well. I was impressed by the quality of the work and the pride in workmanship. They determined the cause of the water leaks after removing the door casement in the laundry room which revealed that the wood under the door threshold was completely saturated with water and had been finding an outlet into the subfloor because it had not been properly wrapped with waterproofing material during construction. Although there was plastic wrapping under the wood, it only covered about 1/2 of the side exposed to the exterior of the house siding, which allowed water leaking in from the top to run down between the plastic and the wood- effectively trapping it there every time it rained. The crew fixed that by wrapping the new wood they put down correctly. There were a number of things like the above that occurred as the dug into the damage that had been done, but I feel confident that they removed everything that had been exposed to moisture and replaced it, but stuck to their quoted estimate for the job. Don't know if we should name our crew online, but ours deserves to be singled out. They worked until 9PM the first night and were back the next day to complete the job by the end of the afternoon. We'll certainly use them again the next time we need a help with a project. Jericho Croft Farm

The outstanding customer service for the time Mr. Gustavo answered my call for services... What a delight to speak with him over the phone as he probed by asking questions to analyze my service needs and responded appropriately with possible solutions. Work Ethic: Mr. Gustavo takes pride in his work and goes above and beyond to assure the customer is satisfied! He also, take time to explain what he is doing and why. I like learning new things, so that was a plus for me. On Time: On time means showing up ahead of time for Mr. Gustavo... Example: If you make an appointment for 2pm; believe me when I say; Mr. Gustavo will be ringing your door bell at 1:45pm. I like it!!! Polite and Curteous: Mr. Gustavo was very respectful of my home and my family. We talked as if we had known each other for years. He has a very personable charecter. The assignment: I purchasd several complicated items from IKEA and Mr. Gustavao had no problem with assembly and installation! As a result; I found several other home improvement projects I asked him to perform. Without hesitation; he took care of those projects as well! Pricing: Mr. Gustavos's pricing is very affordable! I was able to throw in several other projects while I had him on site and it did not affect my budget... My new guy: Ever heard the saying "I got a guy for that?" Well, I can honestly say; when someone ask me; "Can you recommend someone for home improvement projects?" I can honestly say, "I got a guy for that!" Recommend: I highly recommend Mr. Gustavo for your home improvement needs! Respectfully, Wendell M. Satisfied Customer!

Richard was awesome! When my washer went out, Richard first offered a suggestion for me to try so see if I could fix it myself to save money. When that didn't work, he came over and fixed the washer and stayed around to make sure the towels washed properly! While he waited to make sure the washer worked, he fixed my sink and put up my sliding glass door that had broken. He was great and I will definitely contact him again for the next job!

Todd's Painting is a great choice. The job was my garage door. My HOA said it needed to be painted. I wanted a professional. Todd got back to me right away and kept in touch regularly through the project. He came quickly to give an estimate, gave me recommendations about buying paint and I hot his discount at the paint store. It was only a few days from the time I posted my project to when the project was completed. Todd was flexible, professional, and timely. He did a great job.

I had my garage closed in. I couldn't have asked for a better end result. A friend said you can't even tell there was ever a door there. Now I have beautiful 6 foot wide double door where I had 2 cold garage doors. Awesome work. I would recommend Shane to anyone needing work done.

Diane and her crew are extremely professional, friendly and responsive. It was a pleasure working with them. This job started out as a window replacement, but Diane recommended that she reglaze the existing wooden windows rather than replace with vinyl. In addition to reglazing the windows, Diane was able to complete many other items around the house including painting doors, trim, windows, ceilings, porch posts, and stair railings. They also were able to powerwash the house, porch, and walkway! Diane's crew has committed to returning in about a month or so to complete work cleaning up the windows once the glazing has fully set. Other than that, everything is done and looks great. Diane and her crew were punctual, flexible, and enjoyable to work with. I will look to them in the future.

I had Joe out to look at an unrelated job and got him to bid me on a custom framed door and window for a commercial building. The price was right and they were out the next day working to get it finished. They did a fantastic job with the work. I couldn't personally make it to the job site so Joe kept me informed through the the day and sent progress pictures throughout. I would definitely recommend these guys for any of your home improvement needs.

He built custom doors for my storage shed and also a custom mailbox. Both items were made out of wood and we expertly made from 2x4 and 4x4 that he provided in the quote. Very professional and he finished both jobs in four hours. I highly recommend Mr. Clarke.

Bryan was super helpful. He got exactly what I wanted at a good price. After he saw the pictures I sent and got the dimensions he let me know he could get it done in a couple of hours. He told me since I was just painting he could just make my cabinet doors out of MDF which worked out great. If you need a custom cabinet guy Bryan is you guy he takes the time to find out what you want and communicates very well with you on the different options you have. Look forward to doing business with you again Bryan.

Mr. Scheivert's work was top notch. He showed me 2 forms of ID upon his arrival, which made me feel very comfortable. He removed the old locks on my screen doors and shed and replaced them with keyed locks. The screens were somewhat of a challenge but he knew exactly how to fix the problem. He also fixed my sliding glass patio door lock and spotted the exact key to fit it out of a box of old keys that I found in my laundry room. He was also very courteous and professional at all times, and gave me some great advice on installing a home security system. I am very pleased with the work that he did and would highly recommend him to anyone. I'm surely going to keep his telephone # handy in case I need him again in the future.

Steve was excellent. Had him replace a siding piece that came off during high winds. He was so fast to respond that I asked him to re-stain my front entry door. Both jobs came out great. I will definitely call him again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.
