We had our first session with Andrea yesterday and it was wonderful. She was great with both of my dogs and gave me a lot of insight on what was going on with my dog and her anxiety. I am looking forward to our future sessions so we can have a calm, confident pup!

Rachael helped me with introducing a foster pit bull to my three dogs. Everything went smoothly and the new dog was welcomed without any issues. She's great with both animals and humans. She has provided assistance, guidance, and behavioral education that we need to foster successfully.

Megan watched our deaf Great Dane Alice Gertrude for a week when we went to the beach. We rescued Alice Gertrude in February of 2015 and we didn't want to board her so soon. Megan watched our other Dane Magi and we knew she would be perfect for our Alice Gertrude. Megan stayed at our house for a week and took awesome care of our girl. Alice immediately loved Megan and they were best pals after 10 minutes. Megan embraced our Dane's "quirky" behaviors...sleeping horizontally, laying on her chest (Alice thinks she is a "lap dog"!!), & being the best leg-dryer after a shower! Megan is wonderful. ..always let us know how Alice Gertrude was doing, plenty of walks, lots of playtime, and I'm pretty sure an "extra treat" when Alice "blinked her baby blues" @ Megan. Megan is honest, trustworthy, dependable, & most importantly, will love, take care, & treat your pet like you do. Please consider Megan for caring for your 4-legged babies!! You will not be disappointed! ! Sincerely, Mark, Kendra, Parker, Sydney, & Alice Gertrude Brandt

Rachel and her husband did a great job taking care of our two dogs while we were gone for over a week. I wasn't worried about them at all and Rachel sent me texts or emails every day to let me know all was well. I would highly recommend her services.

Stephanie was fantastic with my dog Adi. She clearly knew what she was doing and she was more than happy to answer all of my questions. Training a dog is more than the pet it is so much about the owner and how they behave and she helped me to understand that. I would recommend her to everyone I know with a dog.

I have used Dawn to watch our two dogs for 5 years now and she is wonderful with them. They are excited to see her and I can relax when I have to go out of town. One of my dogs is very anxious and she handles his condition beautifully. They could not be in better hands. She is very reliable and goes above and beyond e.g. meeting us at the Vet to assist when there was an emergency.

In my absence, Melissa took over the responsibility of treating my beloved cat like her own and deciding what was best for both of us. I will always be grateful.

She was just wonderful. My dogs were well taken care of and so was my house.

I walk dogs, transport people, clean bathrooms and refrigerators, and cut grass (small yards). I will also sit with seniors and babysit newborns and infants. Thanks.

I love dogs I have one of my own and willing to work after school. School ends at 2:05 and I get home at 2:40.

Dogs are life. I will walk, feed, play, and care for dogs of all sizes and breeds. I do not discriminate! My favorite activity is to go to trails and walk with dogs. I have high energy golden retrievers who sleep in bed with me, share my food with me, and give me a reason to live. I am looking to bring more dogs into my life whose owners unfortunately do not have time to walk as much as they would like due to jobs or family concerns.

We are well-rounded women who are very passionate for the care of others, and we will do duties necessary for the job.

I love animals and all animals love me. I can take care of them properly and they will have a good walk.

I am a recent FedEx retiree in need of a way to make your life easier and mine busier! I offer several different services from errand running to cleaning your house or room in preparation for that special function or surprise mother-in-law visit! I have, in the past, sold items on eBay for clients, picked up that perfect gift for that forgotten birthday/anniversary, created a child's birthday party at the last minute, walked dogs, taken care of the elderly and/or sick, processed payroll, set up accounting practices for a small business, co-written policies and procedures for a 50-bed hospital, managed a small construction company to include organizing and scheduling trades to meeting with city inspectors and applying for permits, payroll, accts payable and receivable, even rental management. I also worked as materials manager for a hospital in a startup environment and had such a strong work ethic that I took on the position of interim human resources director until they found one and I went on to become the assistant controller with the IT department under my management as well. Let's just say I am a Jill of all trades. I am not afraid of work. There is so much more, but all you need to know is can I do the job you need me for? I'm thinking so. I'm also very friendly and outgoing. Hard to believe isn't it?

Although I am new to this and I have my personal experience with my own dogs, I feel like that is what helps me stand out. I have two great, loving, well behaved and super cared for pups.

I make my business great by taking the time out my day to spend time with the creatures God has made! I love dogs! Dogs are my specialty. I wash, clean, and walk dogs.

I have a dog of my own and have had him almost 10 years, so I know exactly what goes into caring for a dog.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
