In preparing our home for sale, I contracted them to paint several areas that showed some wear and tear. Not only did they repair all wall surfaces, they repainted many areas that I had not even noticed. They were always prompt, courteous, and extremely conscientious about their work.

Bordeaux Construction Services did an outstanding job on a water damage repair job for my currently leased home. I believe the price was just right especially for the quick response from Lee. The home had first floor drywall damage caused by a plumbing leak in the 2nd floor master bath. Lee contacted me within 30 minutes of my quote request on Thumtak.com and asked to take a look at the water damage to the property two days later, on a Saturday, in order to provide a quote for the repair. After confirming with the tenant, we solidified the time. I was so happy with the expedited response and his response to me in general on the website that I then explained the problem to the best of my knowledge. I wanted a single general contractor to take care of my problem! It is such a pain dealing with multiple contractors for a repair job. I asked if Lee would could find the leak, repair it and the damaged drywall. He told me he would definitely do his best to fix the problem but he really needed to look at it first. I authorized him to do what he could. When Lee showed up at the property on Saturday, he did just that. He removed the damaged drywall, inspected the master bath plumbing, troubleshot by testing the bathtub plumbing and found the leak. He repaired the plumbing on the spot. He explained to the tenant they needed to allow time for the water in the ceiling to dry and for the repair to cure. On Monday, he called the tenant and asked them to test the repair. All went well and he scheduled the drywall repair two days later. The ceiling is dry wall with knock-down plaster which can be extremely hard to match in the middle of the ceiling. The tenant was extremely happy with the workmanship. I couldn't be more happy with his efforts as a property owner who is currently deployed overseas. He turned a truly stressfull situation for myself and the tenant family into a total success. Thank you Lee!

I hired Greg to replace some wood planks in my deck. While pulling up old planks, he discovered the main framing was rotted. He rebuilt the frame and an entire section of the deck, along with several planks. He also sturdied-up the railings on the deck. Superb job! Reasonably priced! Would definitely recommend his services! Thanks, Greg!

Don has now handled two projects for me, one large and one smaller, but has done excellent, professional work on both. His kitchen granite and tile work was fabulous, and he installed new entry way and patio doors for me. Timely, cost-effective and professional all the way!

This guy is awesome showed up on time and the crown molding looks amazing. He is changing my opinions about contractors after being burned in the past. Contractors need to look at Josh as an example of how the jobs are meant to be done from start to finish. While he was here I started finding other jobs that I could give him this was an amazing experience.

Over several months, Doug replaced nearly all of the flooring in my house with new laminate, tile, and luxury vinyl planks. We are thrilled with the results, and found Doug to be outstanding to work with. He was uniformly pleasant, professional, responsive and showed great pride in his work and careful attention to detail. The end results are perfectly polished. Highly recommended.

We purchased a new home and needed a full interior paint, as well as some shiplap/moulding installed. First of all, Rick is super easy going and a joy to work with. Always professional, always on time, and very flexible with our changes and additions we made to the project along the way, Rick accommodated our every request. He explained the how's and why's of each step of the project, and helped us make some decisions on some tricky spots. Even though we threw him some curveballs, he never once complained or griped about anything...he is so easy to work with...we cannot say the same for many contractors we have worked with in the past! The quality of work he produces is also top notch. We will hire Rick again in the future, and definitely recommend him to others!!!

Mike was great! I'm a long time renter and new to the homeowner side of things. Had a leak issue with a first floor ac unit that caused some moisture around 2 walls. Not knowing much about drywall/moisture damage, I got in touch with Mike and his crew. They responded quickly, got out to the house in less than a day to check out the situation. Mike looked at the integrity of the current drywall, found it to be good, and pointed me in the direction of some low cost options to dry it out and prevent mold/mildew. It's worked great! Mike could've hosed me and spent the next 2 days unnecessarily ripping out drywall to replace it resulting in a huge cost for me. Instead he saved me some dough by showing me how to best handle the situation. For that, I'm very appreciative. If anything major comes up in the future, I'll be giving Creative Living a call!

I found them, or they found me, on thumbtack. They were extremely quick with their responses, polite, and knowledgeable. I am active duty stationed out of town, and I needed some fence repair on a rental property. I did not want to redo the whole fence, so they worked with me on what they could do as well as pricing. They kept in constant contact with me in regards to a timeline, and sent me photos of the work when it was completed. Due to being out of town, I was hesitant about finding someone without meeting them. But they made me feel sure of my choice from the beginning, and definitely delivered! I am happy that I got the chance to work with them, and will definitely be calling again for future repairs!

Overall I am satisfied with the outcome of the flooring, however the customer experience portion left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I was getting bamboo flooring installed and had several questions about things suggested by the manufacturer and that I had read online (i.e. acclimation time.) I found Mr. Moore to be very condescending and rude. Everytime I asked a question about the flooring and the things I had read, he rolled his eyes, talked down to me, and made me very uncomfortable. He seemed to be very irritated throughout the job. I have no complaints about the workmanship, but people skills and customer appreciation could use improvement.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long is welding training?

Because there are different paths to learning to weld, there’s no single timeline for welding training. Some people attend school part-time while working their current job, while others can focus full-time on their welding training courses. People interested in learning how to weld as a hobby can also take classes from professional welders, such as at KCMA & Services in Waterloo, Indiana.

Expect to take at least two years to go from welding newbie to American Welding Society Certified Welder. A junior college Certificate of Completion welding course is two semesters full-time, or 10 units of coursework. With this certificate, students are qualified for an apprenticeship or internship, rather than a full-time entry-level job. Welding apprenticeships range from 6,000 to 8,000 hours long, equalling three to four years at 2,000 hours per year. Some junior colleges, such as Cerritos College in the Los Angeles area, offer more in-depth welding programs that lead to different welding certifications, such as arc welding and tungsten gas arc welding. These take three to four semesters to complete, so you could be qualified for an entry-level job in about two years of full-time study. Alternatively, you can prepare for employment more quickly through an intensive vocational program at a trade school. For instance, Ohio’s Lincoln Electric Company offers a comprehensive program that prepares people for a welding career in just 20 weeks and 600 hours of hands-on instruction.

How much is welding training?

The cost of welding training depends on where you take your classes and how quickly you want to complete the program. In general, junior college welding classes are the least expensive, but may take longer; trade schools offer intensive classes that lead to certification more quickly, but are more expensive. For example, Cerritos College, a junior college in Los Angeles that offers a welding training course, charges an average of $46 per unit; most of their welding certificate programs require 19 units of coursework, so cost about $875 each to complete. Pro-Weld, an on-site welding school in Idaho, offers three different welding courses. The 36-week welder fabrication and the 24-week gas tungsten arc welding courses each cost an average of $3,300, while pipe welding costs an average of $2,500 for a 24-week session or an average of $4,500 for a 52-week session. The 20-week comprehensive program at the Lincoln Electric Company in Ohio costs an average of $9,500. Many programs require students to purchase approximately $120-$200 worth of personal welding equipment in addition to textbooks or other class material fees.

How many types of welding are there?

Welding is a method of fusing together two or more pieces of metal using electricity or flame. Welding is used to construct buildings, make metal sculptures, build and repair cars, make gates and furniture, and for many other practical and aesthetic uses. There are multiple types of welding. Here is an overview of the most popular methods:

  • Stick welding: Formally known as shielded metal arc welding, stick welding uses extreme heat applied at the seam of two separate metals to melt them together. A third (intermediary) metal may also be incorporated for added strength. As the metals cool, they are bonded together.
  • Metal inert gas (MIG) welding: Formally known as gas metal arc welding, MIG welding uses a tool to feed metal wire into the weld puddle while an electrical arc melts the wire, which will fuse to the base metal upon cooling.
  • Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding: Formally referred to gas tungsten arc welding, TIG welding is a similar process MIG welding, but instead of using a tool that continuously feeds metal wire into the weld puddle, the welder must hold and manually feed the stick.
  • Gas welding: A mix of flammable gas and oxygen is used to heat metal to the melting point.
  • Forge welding: Forging metal is an ancient art that involves heating two pieces of metal until they are molten, then hammering them together.

Where can I take welding classes?

Your options for welding classes depend on where you live and whether you’re willing to travel. Many skilled professionals offer private or group welding classes across the U.S. Some high schools offer classes for teens, but many people learn from a private trainer or in a junior college or vocational school. Students learn basic welding, machining and fabrication processes, including using gas and arc welding equipment, and qualify for an apprenticeship or internship. Other colleges as well as vocational schools have two-year associate’s degree programs that prepare you to take the welding certification exam and seek full-time employment.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
